It feels like Legend of the Blue Sea is treading water, which is such a shame because the narrative crescendo ought to be building but the writing remains subpar for a drama with such big name leads and publicity. I enjoy Joon Jae and Shim Chung’s relationship progression into sweetly dating, but her character remains hard to connect with in … Continue reading →
Well things certainly took a turn in less than a day from the news that the K-drama adaptation of manhwa Bride of the Water God was scheduled for February 2017 filming. Now comes the first casting news – Nam Joo Hyuk has reportedly been offered the male lead role of water god Haebak, with the drama modernizing the story from … Continue reading →
The first big entertainment news of 2017 is here and happily it’s a joyous one. HK-actress turned director Charlie Yeung has confirmed the recent speculations that she is expecting her first child with her Singaporean husband of three years Khoo Shao Tze. The 42-year old star has been a HK entertainment staple for over two decades ever since her debut … Continue reading →
Promotions are ramping up for the C-drama premiere of fantasy romance Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Mile Peach Blossoms, airing on January 30th with a head start on the movie version which doesn’t hit the theaters until summer of 2017. Starring Yang Mi and Mark Chao, the drama is a visual feast of contrasting colors of white, black, and red … Continue reading →
Week 5 of Goblin aired during the year end holidays but didn’t have a dent on the ratings, with episodes 9 and 10 remaining steady in the 12% range. I remained equally thrilled that the drama is such a hit for male leads Gong Yoo and Lee Dong Wook after their last misfires in Big and Iron Man, respectively, but … Continue reading →
I’ve heard so many drama friends raving about Lee Je Hoon ever since the war movie The Front Line back in 2011, which he then followed up with the hit Introduction to Architecture. On the drama front he didn’t make an impression until the critical and ratings hit Signal last year but the drama didn’t interest me so I’m excited to … Continue reading →
I’ll believe it when I see it has been my approach with the long discussed K-drama adaptation of this well known manhwa, but then 2016 made a K-version of Bu Bu Jing Xin a reality and succeeded in producing two incredibly ambitious dramas with Descendants of the Sun and Goblin. The upcoming tvN drama version of fantasy gods and goddesses … Continue reading →
I was nearly bored to giving up on TW-dramas this year in 2016, the only one I finished entirely was Love @ Seventeen with Lego Lee and Nikki Hsieh. The depressed ratings for domestic dramas speaks the same for audiences but viewers still want to watch dramas as evidenced by the surge in ratings for K-dramas broadcast in Taiwan television. … Continue reading →
Most sequels tend to disappoint regardless of whether the original cast comes back. It’s hard to make lightning in a bottle twice but I’m mildly optimistic about the upcoming period C-drama Nirvana in Fire 2. It’s from the same production crew from screenwriter to director but with a completely unrelated story and new cast. The setting is fifteen years about … Continue reading →
Na PD kept this project under wraps so well because the first preview is out just a day after news came out that his next variety reality show will be following newlywed K-ent couple Gu Hye Sun and Ahn Jae Hyun. He’s already been filming the recently married pair in what looks like a countryside setting, complete with fresh snow … Continue reading →
New year and the first C-drama out of the gate is the splashy romance period piece General and I, adapted from the popular C-novel A Lonesome Fragrance Waiting to be Appreciated. I think the casting is on point with period drama leading man veteran Wallace Chung playing the patriotic general and prince with Angelababy as the whip smart damsel sometimes … Continue reading →
I said K-actress Song Hye Kyo was hair goals a few weeks ago when she did a CF for the new mega expensive Dyson hair dryer, the ideal pitch woman to lure shoppers to shill our $400 US dollars in an attempt to get hair as lustrous and flowing as her. Now I think she’s goals as a star with … Continue reading →
SBS waited until quite the last moment to confirm the followup drama to Wed-Thurs ratings leader but relative disappoint Legend of the Blue Sea. The network will be airing Lee Young Ae‘s comeback sageuk drama Saimdang: Light’s Diary at the end of January. The exact date hasn’t been confirmed yet because Legend preempted this week’s episode 14 on Thursday due … Continue reading →
