I’m not sure the buzz is as strong anymore around recently finished tvN drama Answer Me 1988, what with the murmurings of dissatisfaction with the ending from some segments of the viewing audience. During its run the drama was a ratings juggernaut and launched the careers of newbie Ryu Jun Yeol as well as elevating the popularity and of young … Continue reading →
I’m a little surprised at the strong reactions to the first filming stills of leads Lee Jun Ki and IU in the upcoming K-version of Bu Bu Jing Xin. Whereas the original novel was set in the more structured confines of the Qing dynasty, and may have made more sense if the K-version moved the setting to the similar era … Continue reading →
With Valentine’s Day over and done with, that means it’s mid-February already and rounding the corner into the final stretch of promotions for the two big K-dramas premiering at the end of the month. SBS is keeping the pace for Please Come Back Ahjusshi, starting this week off with clean character posters that work not because of artistic styling but on … Continue reading →
The lovely young ladies, not exactly college age anymore, just graduated from Chung An University with tons of fan and media coverage present. Park Shin Hye and Sooyoung and Yuri of SNSD were on hand to receive their college diplomas after a much longer matriculation than most students due to their periodic sabbaticals for acting or singing projects. At least … Continue reading →
TW-drama Marry Me or Not wrapped up its compact 15-episode run last Sunday with a nice flourish. A tidy bow if you will, for the OTP at least, and really that’s all I cared about. Roy Qiu made a triumphant return to drama land with this drama and role, his lawyer Justin was hilarious and ever evolving, a man who … Continue reading →
It’s rare for me to be totally caught off guard but this C-drama news is a major out of nowhere announcement. Tong Hua’s period fantasy wuxia novel Once Promised (Ceng Shu Nuo) is getting a C-drama adaptation starring Huang Xiaoming and Victoria Song (Song Qian). It’s the story of the parents generation before the sequel novel Lost You Forever that … Continue reading →
The goodies for the upcoming K-drama adaptation of Bu Bu Jing Xin keep on coming despite the drama being fully pre-filmed and not airing until much later this year. I’m totally not complaining, all I worry about is this drama not delivering to expectation and/or running out of steam. The first filming stills have been released and features leads IU … Continue reading →
Goes to show what a good role can do in changing impressions. Nam Joo Hyuk is doing just swell in the cast of Cheese in the Trap, not as much as Seo Kang Joon is changing impressions in his second male lead role, but enough to not continue to disappoint as a lump of coal. It’s actually good enough to … Continue reading →
So Ji Sub is one of those slow burn type actors, and for that he continues to carve his own niche in an industry where overacting is more prevalent thanks to the propensity for makjang plot lines. He recently wrapped up K-drama Oh My Venus, a ratings disappointment despite the combined big names in him with Shin Mina, but overall … Continue reading →
Taiwan doesn’t make period dramas anymore, not since China started churning them out twenty years ago with bigger budgets and the resources for vast location shoots. Many Taiwanese actors and actresses have since done period C-dramas but a few haven’t worked that extensively in the mainland so still hasn’t tried out the flowing robes for size. That’s about to change … Continue reading →
I think imma going to like the stylings of Korean Bu Bu Jing Xin (Bobogyungsim: Ryeo) now that I’ve seen the third of the first series of looks. Following on the heels of sneak peeks at leads Lee Jun Ki and IU in costume at the prayer ceremony, the production released the character costume fitting stills of second male lead … Continue reading →
What a delightful and refreshing surprise to run across K-actress Park Eun Bin doing the promotional rounds recently. I haven’t seen her since K-drama Secret Door over a year ago and she continues to grow into lovely adulthood. She’s one of the early child actors in the Hallyu era, doing countless roles as the younger versions of many leading ladies, … Continue reading →
It’s no secret that Descendants of the Sun is super high budget, basically blowing all previous K-dramas out of the water with the overseas location shoots and military/medical story line necessitating sprawling sets and costumes. That’s worth checking this drama out alone, so I think the early murmurings of disappointment with the previews so far are valid but not necessarily … Continue reading →
