I’m loving this sweet and classy trend in Chinese cinema, which I first saw last summer but may have started even earlier than that. HK actor-producer-director Stephen Chow‘s top secret new movie The Mermaid premiered over lunar new year weekend in China and proceeded to shatter all premiere weekend records by a long shot. I figured it was only a … Continue reading →
Filming is underway for the next MBC mega drama, the Mon-Tues slated 50-episode Monster (Tyrant), which really can do with a better title if you ask me. My gut tells me MBC is trying to harken back to the glory days of dramas like Giant, behemoths that truly lived up to its larger than life narrative scope and garnered equal … Continue reading →
The first teaser is out for upcoming SETTV Sunday night drama Refresh Man with Aaron Yan and Joanne Tseng and it brings back all the right feels. It has the same bright effervescence of Just You, the drama with Aaron and Puff Guo which launched them into the top tiers of Taiwan drama stars. It also gives off the earnest … Continue reading →
Korean has the Mnet girl group music competition Produce 101, now comes the C-version that is getting way more attention for the producers and judges than the actual competition roster. It’s basically the bromance of the two Nics and I couldn’t be happier to check it out. HK singer-actor-entrepreneur Nicholas Tse is co-producing Lady Bees with TW singer-actor-producer Nicky Wu, … Continue reading →
I’m not sure who will end up making martial arts noodles but all I care about is the end product being tasty. KBS remains in search of a leading man for its upcoming Wed-Thurs drama God of Noodles, adapted from a manhwa of the same name. I do wonder if KBS won’t rethink this particular drama since its current martial … Continue reading →
The K-media is starting to write articles about the head-to-head competition next week of two high profile K-dramas. Descendants of the Sun and Please Come Back Ahjusshi would be fodder for competition simply by airing on the same Wed-Thurs time slot around the same time, the fact that it premieres on the same day rather than one or two weeks … Continue reading →
This recent C-ent awards season was all about the bromance of Hu Ge and Wallace Huo. Thanks to both having spectacular C-drama successes in 2015, it was easy to fete each individually while enjoying their camaraderie during the awards show circuit. Hu Ge won various recognition for The Disguiser and Nirvana in Fire while Wallace had the dual successes of … Continue reading →
The current bunch of prime time K-dramas hasn’t been all that buzzy but that doesn’t equate to failure. SBS leads the ratings for both Mon-Tues with Six Flying Dragons, and especially on Wed-Thurs with Remember (Son’s War), which was netting even better ratings than Dragons. In fact, the final episode of Remember which aired this Thursday broke 20% ratings, that … Continue reading →
I love when it seems like the production hears the feedback from the fans and addresses it. That certainly feels like this case with the newly released promos for Descendants of the Sun that finally shows the soldiers and doctors in a disaster war zone looking grimy and gritty instead of pristine and air brushed. Of course the dirt is … Continue reading →
C-dramas remain notoriously hit-or-miss for me, even with last year yielding a bumper crop of watchable ones like Nirvana in Fire, The Disguiser, and My Sunshine, among others. Overall it’s still mostly duds and the recently started The Imperial Doctress with Liu Shi Shi and Wallace Huo has me headdesking at the stupid and boring writing leading to a waste of everyone’s … Continue reading →
Kyaaaaa, such perfect timing to drop an exhilarating drama casting news to get over the midweek hump. Breaking news is even better in twos, especially if it involves two of my fave actors. Ji Sung and Park Bo Gum are in talks for upcoming SBS drama Entertainer. Ji Sung and Park Bo Gum, now I need to pinch myself. The … Continue reading →
The new lunar calendar year of the monkey brings the first juicy dating news to liven things up. It’s kinda scandalous but I’m all about letting pretty people do their pretty thing so this unexpected couple is fine by me. Feng Shao Feng currently has a hit C-movie in theaters The Monkey King 2, which is doing head-to-head competition with … Continue reading →
Music is a huge deal for me in my drama watch experience. I don’t recall there being any drama faves of mine where I didn’t at least like and most likely loved the OST. It’s so crucial to setting the mood and from the sound of things Descendants of the Sun at least has a talented soundtrack guru. The drama … Continue reading →
