The more I see of My Lovely Girl (My Lovable Girl) the more it doesn’t look as bad as I expected. There is a certain soft-focus dreamy quality about it that works for a drama story centered around a brokenhearted man falling in love again. Sure we’ve seen this set up a million times now but whether it works or … Continue reading →
It’s Okay, It’s Love ends this week, a brisk 16-episodes that packed a lot in (some can say too much) and never left one feeling indifferent. This latest drama from writer Noh Hee Kyung, regardless of its shortcomings in accurate medical knowledge and forging realistic and/or likable characters, remains a revelation for me to watch. I seesawed from loving it … Continue reading →
All the Korean entertainers are making overseas visits to other Asian countries a normal and regular part of their promotional schedules. Taiwan is one hot destination and plenty of variety shows have filmed there recently from Grandpas Over Flowers to Running Man. Cha Seung Won made his third visit to the island this week to promote the upcoming network airing … Continue reading →
Three years is basically an eternity when it comes to the lightning speed of K-entertainment. New idol groups mushroom like an unholy army of dancing clones and the tide of new actors and actresses arrive to vie for a spot on a casting roster. A-list actors and actresses can afford to go three years and even more without an acting … Continue reading →
I’m sorry for the readers on such a long gap in publishing another translated chapter of Lost You Forever. But I’m not sorry for myself because I desperately needed a breather from the breakneck pace as well as a bit of regrouping on my energy and conviction for this project. It’s sooooo long and once I hit volume three with … Continue reading →
I’m getting so pumped for Iron Man (Blade Man) which premieres tomorrow on KBS. Once in a blue moon does a drama come along this over-the-top in concept. It requires hand-rubbing glee to welcome its arrival rather than indifferent waiting. I still think it looks like a hot mess in the making from the previews and stills but occasionally even … Continue reading →
It probably sucks being Lee Min Jung right now. I say this with sympathy for her plight despite her life being rich, famous, and beautiful. All the superficial outer accoutrements that signal success in the material world, but really can’t be a stand in for happiness right about now. The whole of K-ent was talking about Lee Min Jung’s husband … Continue reading →
With news that MBC is lining up its early 2015 dramas, KBS is also getting the ball rolling now with some big name help. The most anticipated KBS drama of 2015 so far has got to be Blood, the follow up drama from the PD-writer of Good Doctor. KBS has been raking in serious awards with GD for the last year … Continue reading →
Happy Zhong Qiu/Chuseok everyone! It’s the annual mid-autumn festival in the Asian countries that still celebrate it, namely Korea and Greater China (Mainland, Taiwan, and Hong Kong) for us following along with its dramas. Japan celebrates it as Tsukimi or the moon viewing holiday, and the mid-autumn festival is always the 15th day of the 8th month on the lunar … Continue reading →
Production is really ramping up on the upcoming MBC early 2015 tent pole drama with the terrible title of Kill Me Heal Me. For some reason this drama totally feels like MBC is getting a step up on SBS with its massive preparation for Kim Eun Sook‘s return drama Descendants of the Sun which has been pushed back to June … Continue reading →
I’m sure longtime Lee Jong Seok fans must find it amusing that I’ve grown fond of him through arguably his crappiest drama Dr. Stranger. I don’t know why but perhaps crap is the leave to make his charisma flower shine? Hahahaha, that’s a terrible analogy so I’ll just zip it and enjoy liking him now and worry zilch about why … Continue reading →
Kyaaaaa, I cannot believe my J-dorama gods granted my prayers for the last month that the two leading men cast opposite Ayase Haruka in her new fall dorama would be right up my alley. The full casting news dropped this week for the live-action adaptation of the popular young ladies manga Kyou wa Kaisha Yasumimasu (きょうは会社休みます translated as Today I … Continue reading →
The first official look at the upcoming period noir Korean gangster movie Gangnam Blues is out. It likely wouldn’t be high on most viewers’ radar if the drama wasn’t starring Lee Min Ho and would marked a major shift in his acting repertoire. But for fans of K-cinema this movie is high on the must-check-out list because it’s helmed by … Continue reading →
