It’s still two months away from the premiere of The Three Musketeers on cable network tvN, but the cast and crew have assembled for filming already because the drama is aiming to be pre-filmed as much as possible. Such a wise decision, I wish more dramas would have confidence in its story integrity to do that rather than the live … Continue reading →
I wonder if it’s as painful for the actors in Dr. Stranger to soldier on until the end as it has been as a viewer to stick with it. I am invested enough, against all reason, to want to know how the scriptwriter plans to end it all. Jae Joon finally does something in episode 18 but I have a … Continue reading →
KBS is going to stick with the romance genre in the Mon-Tues slot even after Lovers of Music (Trot Lovers) wraps up. On deck is Discovery of Romance with the eclectic but interesting lead cast of Eric, Jung Yumi, Sung Joon, and Yoon Jin Yi. Add to it a fantastic supporting cast of Yoon Hyun Min (Cruel City, Age of Feeling, … Continue reading →
The shit hits the fan fast in Joseon Gunman. My emotions got dragged through the ringer thoroughly in episode 4 as my heart ached in different ways for all the good guys. Yoon Kang is forced to grow up literally overnight, with a series of tragedies befalling him worthy of a Shakespearean play. That’s rather apropos since sageuks often have … Continue reading →
This was a fantastic episode of You’re All Surrounded, within the context of its quality-level of course, but nevertheless fast and full of important information. I found the first half of the drama always taking one step forward two steps back, but now it’s switched to being two steps forward one step back. That reinforces the conclusion that this drama … Continue reading →
The remake of hit movies and shows are nothing new across different entertainment industries. Sometimes it works and there is room for another version, other times one wishes the original would be left well enough alone. This year’s hit K-movie Miss Granny starring Shim Eum Kyung, which won her a Best Actress Baeksang, will be getting a C-movie version to … Continue reading →
I can’t pick what I love best about Joseon Gunman so far, and that’s a shocker since usually the OTP would top the list. Nothing is wrong about the reunion of Lee Jun Ki and Nam Sang Mi, their characters continue to be interesting and the chemistry bubbling over with cuteness. The kicker is that this drama is just good … Continue reading →
It’s a small but appreciated blessing that You’re All Surrounded is one of those dramas that has a much stronger second half than the first. I survived the choppier first half and now feel like I’m rewarded to recap happily with plenty of nicely built up resolutions to look forward to. Episode 15 toggles between cheerful filler like a Gangnam … Continue reading →
Another entertainment-related romance news hit the wires this week and this one is the reverse of last month’s announcement that Korean actress Chae Rim was marrying her Chinese actor boyfriend Gao Zi Qi. Chinese actress Tang Wei is engaged to critically acclaimed Korean movie director Kim Tae Young who directed her and Hyun Bin in the art house movie Late … Continue reading →
It’s been five-years since the critically acclaimed TW-drama Black & White, which spawned talks of a sequel or even movie reuniting the cop partner duo of Vic Zhou as Pi Zi and Mark Chao as Ying Xiong. For various reasons that never materialized and two years ago Director Tsai and Mark did reunite for the first movie prequel called Black … Continue reading →
Does anyone else feel like both July and the K-drama remake of Fated to Love You totally snuck up on the world? With just one week in between the premiere of Joseon Gunman and You’re All Surrounded heading towards the final stretch, FTLY is the rom-com dark horse in a time when rom-coms generally fizzle when it comes to racking up ratings. … Continue reading →
The romance trajectory of Joseon Gunman hews closely to its PD’s predecessor work The Princess’s Man. I actually don’t find the visual styles all that similar but the story set up is almost a carbon copy based on what has been shown plus the teasers to come. Like in TPM, leads Park Yoon Kang and Jung Soo In have the … Continue reading →
The end is getting so close and the light at the end of the tunnel is either my salvation or Dr. Stranger done killed me and I don’t know that I’m heading towards the light. Episode 18 continues to be as nonsensical as all out but, and that’s a very qualified but, it actually didn’t leave me quaking with anger … Continue reading →
