Being a manga fan since the dawn of my consciousness means that I will never get too old to not be excited with a live action adaptation, especially when Japan does it and goes all in. Recent years have seen successful adaptation of Rurouni Kenshin and the widely panned adaptation of Attack on Titan, so the two extremes will forever … Continue reading →
Oh dang, clearly being super famous and critically acclaimed isn’t enough to gain a reprieve or special dispensation from the ongoing Chinese ban on Hallyu. Upcoming Chinese thriller movie Sheer Cliff was set to start filming starring Zhang Zi Yi paired with K-actor Ha Jung Woo and now the movie is a no go. At least a no go for … Continue reading →
It’s hard to cover award winning director Hong Sang Soo and his new movie On the Beach Alone at Night starring award winning actress Kim Min Hee without being back splashed with their messy personal life romance. After holding hands all over the Berlin Film Festival last month where Kim Min Hee took home the coveted Best Actress Award, the … Continue reading →
Korean movies have been having a banner few years at the box office receipts even while K-dramas dropped in ratings every year as a whole, it’s no wonder the allure of movies has increased beyond prestige to also include financial rewards. Expect a slew of high profiles movies in 2017 from the announced batch in 2016 that finished filming, and … Continue reading →
It’s a sigh of relief to see at least one star presence at the VIP premiere of the movie A Single Rider not look like a fashion victim. Other than Park Shin Hye, low key and effortlessly chic, everyone else got hit with either the clothing fail, the makeup monstrosity, and/or the hair woes. If I add Eom Ji Won … Continue reading →
The casting of the movie version of Cheese in the Trap would be considered perfect, if it was ten years ago for all four leads. The movie finished casting today with the additional of Yoo In Young as second female lead Baek In Ha, joining already confirmed female lead Oh Yeon Seo as Hong Seol. Oh Yeon Seo was hilarious … Continue reading →

Japan is stacking the summer 2017 deck in terms of highly anticipated adaptations, not only is there the live-action version of Gintama coming with Oguri Shun, there is also the live-action adaptation of classic shonen hit manga Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. The arc being adapted is Diamond of Unbreakable and the gorgeous young cast is led by my adorable cutie pie … Continue reading →
I’m way more fascinated by the fashion, mostly lack thereof, parade at the VIP movie premiere for the thriller movie Fabricated City than I am in the actual movie. Starring Ji Chang Wook and Shim Eun Kyung, the movie is a cross between wrongfully accused of murder Defendant and Healer‘s computer hacking and chase thrills. The trailer looks sleek enough … Continue reading →
More character posters are out for the highly anticipated summer Japanese movie live-action adaptation of popular shonen manga Gintama (Silver Soul). The first set of movie posters released last month were of the three main characters – Oguri Shun as the silver haired samurai Sataka Gintoki, Suda Masaki as his colleague Shimura Shinpachi, and Hashimoto Kanna as the red haired … Continue reading →
It’s clear C-actor Hu Ge has his eyes on a prize bigger than popularity and easy appeal as he’s about to follow up multiple hit dramas from recent years with a turn to the dark side. Hu Ge has been playing sweet male lead characters from his debut days and in recent years veered into the upstanding calculating type in … Continue reading →
Not every adaptation is equal but it hurts even more for a beloved story to get stuck with a terrible live-action version. Japan did an amazing job with the Rurouni Kenshin live-action movie series and now there’s another similar work coming in Summer of 2017 that looks promising so far thanks to a fan approved casting. The live-action Gintama (literal … Continue reading →
