Aliens and samurais and weird duck creatures FTW! The movie posters and first main preview is out for the highly anticipated Japanese live-action movie adaptation of wildly popular shonen manga Gintama (Silver Soul), a wacky action series that plays loose with gags and a well formed creative narrative. The movie comes out smack in the middle of summer on July 15th … Continue reading →
Someone is having the time of his life and it’s none other than top Hallyu star Kim Soo Hyun returning to the lime light this week with the promotional start of his upcoming Korean thriller movie Real. This was his first foray into darker material and an antagonist male lead but at the press conference this week he was such … Continue reading →
I have yet to see Kim Soo Hyun get dark and dirty in any role but this may be the turning point in upcoming summer movie Real. He’s done action in Secretly, Greatly, and even in Thieves or You From Another Star there was physicality involved. But he’s always been the good guy or the underdog we root for, and the … Continue reading →
This is an awkward mix up to have but no harm no foul I guess. Director Hong Sang Soo‘s art house flick On the Beach at Nigh Alone is screening at the Cannes Film Festival and it remains to be seen if the movie gets the same positive feedback here as it did at the Berlin Film Festival. It was … Continue reading →
This wasn’t what I expected but definitely looks cool and a nice new evolution in the Kim Soo Hyun acting repertoire. The first movie teaser is here for summer thriller movie Real, billed as a noir piece but now looks more like an action flick. I’m thinking Oldboy crossed with a gangster movie, with plenty of sleek and sultry scenes … Continue reading →
Now this is a strange deja when two stars mentioned for one project instead get confirmed for a completely different project. Hyun Bin’s name has been linked to sci-fi K-drama City of Lights and zombie sageuk movie Outbreak for a few months, and recently he confirmed the latter though I’m hoping he also signs on for the former since I … Continue reading →
One by one Japan’s most popular mangas are getting live action movie or drama adaptations, even ones formerly considered impossible to adapt due to technological limitations. Coming this summer is the first live action adaptation of one of the best selling shonen mangas of all time Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, which is indeed weird and bizarre like it’s title suggests. There’s … Continue reading →
Lordy is this going to be an exquisitely beautiful movie when it comes out this summer of 2017. The first full movie trailer is here for Once Upon a Time, the C-movie adaptation of fantasy gods and goddesses romance novel Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles Peach Blossoms. This movie has a high standard to live up to thanks to … Continue reading →
The first character posters are out for the C-movie adaption of popular romance novel Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles Peach Blossoms. The C-movie has the English title Once Upon a Time while the C-drama which aired early this year had the English title Eternal Love, which makes it easier to distinguish but I prefer to use the common original … Continue reading →
The South Korean wallets have spoken and a first ever prestigious award win isn’t enough to overcome the personal life gossip at the box office. Director Hong Sang Soo‘s latest indie film On the Beach at Night Alone starring Kim Min Hee premiered last Thursday in South Korea and after the weekend is ranked a paltry 9th on the box office … Continue reading →
The reboot or continuation of K-drama Cheese in the Trap has kicked off as the movie cast gathered for their first production meeting. The only returnee from the drama is male lead Park Hae Jin, while the rest of the well-cast drama leads Kim Go Eun, Seo Kang Joon, and Lee Sung Kyung are all out. I don’t have a … Continue reading →
The movie Ordinary People is certainly a forgettable cinematic title used more than once before, but at least the cast of the upcoming K-movie isn’t ordinary in the least. Starring Jang Hyuk and Son Hyun Joo, it’s a twisty psychological power thriller that mines the dark reaches of human need, which I can totally see the two male leads bringing … Continue reading →
This sounds like a potentially fun new K-movie in the works, even if the casting keeps with the current trend of pairing together an established critically acclaimed veteran with a popular young thing still learning the acting ropes. Girl’s Day‘s Hyeri is making her big screen debut in a splashy way with the sageuk supernatural comedy movie Water Monster (Mulgae). … Continue reading →
