The idol C-drama world appears to be in love with the Early Republic era right now. I almost need two hands to count how many C-dramas are filmed, filming, or on deck set during the time period right after the fall of the Qing dynasty plus a decade or so. It’s personally one of my fave period settings so I’m … Continue reading →
The happy and proud cast and crew of the just ended KBS Mon-Tues drama Big Man hied themselves off to a cast wrap party on Tuesday as the drama prepared to air its final episode. What can I say about Big Man? It wasn’t great but it had heart, and more importantly, it stuck to its guns and told a … Continue reading →
The two cuties of Joseon Gunman have unleashed their adorableness on the drama world and seriously brightened up what was an otherwise crazy start to the drama week. Lee Jun Ki and Nam Sang Mi are seen together in the first ever couple stills for the upcoming sageuk drama in what looks like the pre-gunman days. Wearing various pretty outfits, … Continue reading →
Crazy is as crazy does, and much as recapping Dr. Stranger feels like an exercise in futility, I can’t lie that it’s not fun in a masochistic way. It can be reduced to “at least I’m not bored” even if being on the verge of tearing my hair out appears to veer too far to the other extreme. Episode 14 dropped … Continue reading →
It’s ladies dating week as K-ent gets a double dose of good news with its established leading actresses. Chae Rim, who has a successful career in both Korea and China, will be tying the knot with her Chinese actor boyfriend Gao Zi Qi. They first met on the set of the sprawling epic period 2012 C-drama Li’s Family Courtyard playing … Continue reading →
I’m not going to complain that there is too much Choi Jin Hyuk these days but it sure does feel like the man is everywhere. Starting with last year’s major breakthrough in a supporting role in Gu Family Book, Choi Jin Hyuk has been working nonstop in dramas and movies. He was one of the better things in Heirs, had a leading … Continue reading →
Hating on a drama for poor directing, wonky script, or even bad acting, that’s all good and fine. Those are merely cogs that make the drama machine move and hardly worth getting emotionally invested in. What really chaps my hide is when the failure is with characters getting hijacked midway through after I’ve grown to care. Dr. Stranger has been … Continue reading →
After episode 13 Dr. Stranger is officially one of the stinkiest piece of shit dramas that ever got crapped out of the ass of someone wearing the moniker of a screenwriter. If I can blackball someone then the screenwriter of DS is on the top of the list. This is worse than fan-fiction with every other word misspelled. This drama … Continue reading →
I smell the whiff of bromance ahead in the upcoming KBS Mon-Tues drama Lovers of Music (Trot Lovers) judging by the buddy-buddy official drama stills of the two leading men Ji Hyun Woo and Shin Sung Rok. Throw in a third wheel in Son Ho Joon and this movie might dispense with the ladies and be about three musically inclined … Continue reading →
My feelings about the barreling makjang train that is Temptation is totally mixed. On one hand a good makjang is a rare indeed and such a decadent treat when it appears I slurp it up with no regrets. Makjang has a bad name for being ridiculous but when done right it takes preposterous and makes it mean something. Crazy ludicrous … Continue reading →
Looks like Dr. Stranger is continuing with its transformation into whatever might salvage this sinking ship, including doing away with Park Hoon’s fried mop hairstyle and throwing in some much needed but wholly abrupt budding bromance between Hoon and Jae Joon. The new stills showing the two guys having a drink and being all smiling with each other is very easy on … Continue reading →
I thought Ha Ji Won was headed straight to Hollywood after ruling the domestic television network ratings for half a year as the titular Empress Ki. Turns out she’s taking a quick detour to drop a digital single first, making it seem as easy and effortless as stopping for a coffee. Ha Ji Won’s new original single is called “Now … Continue reading →
If something quacks like a duck, looks like a duck, walks like a duck, then it is most definitely a duck. Same does not go for dramas as plenty of dramas have looked good and sounded good only to end up horribly off-the-mark. Like a supposed ace pitcher getting on the mound and throws a wild pitch that lands somewhere … Continue reading →
