Wow, who let the awesome dogs out over at PTS? While GTV and SETTV duke it out for frothy idol-fare and CTS and CTV barely hang in there airing crap filler dramas, PTS has long been the home for the good stuff that doesn’t always catch my eye. The last time a PTS drama won my everlasting love was Black … Continue reading →
In all my years of drama watching I’m having a hard time remembering feeling this level of anxiety as a drama heads towards the finale. Normally I’m worried one or both of my OTP will die, which is understandably traumatic, but King Flower is rewriting the script for how to mind-fuck its viewers and potentially give everyone a collective aneurysm. … Continue reading →
I’m so sheepish about enjoying this all on my own and in secret for the past few days I finally caved and decided to post it. I suppose coming clean is the first step in taking the stigma off liking something so thoroughly mediocre yet addicting. Apparently Lee Min Ho is trying to branch out beyond picking different acting projects … Continue reading →
A drama can’t succeed on account of just being good, it needs to be nurtured properly and that is where a good marketing strategy comes in. Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love was rather haphazardly marketed from the get go and since it premiered its been playing catch up by hook or crook. The story has dramatically changed since the … Continue reading →
It’s not every day that two generally acknowledged terrible actors meet and post a cute picture together and lead me to think they might actually work well onscreen in some frothy rom-com capacity. Song Seung Heon, who has been fanservicing the heck out of his social media networks all during the filming of When a Man Loves (which is how … Continue reading →
There are dramas that you watch that linger briefly and then pass into oblivion. Very few make such an impact that it transcends the entertainment value and becomes something symbolic in ways that validate its purpose. 2005’s J-dorama 1 Litre of Tears (Ichi Rittoru no Namida) is one of those dramas that seeps into your bones and never really goes … Continue reading →
The power house cast of the upcoming sageuk Goddess of Fire Jeongi sat down for their first script reading a few weeks ago but MBC just released the official stills this week. Starring Moon Geun Young as the titular Goddess of Fire, the story chronicles the life and love of a Joseon-era female potter who lived during the reign of … Continue reading →
The KBS Mon-Tues drama Queen of the Office with Kim Hye Soo and Oh Ji Ho appears to have come and gone without even a ripple in the online viewing audience. It’s ratings were middling but the drama appears to have suffered from lack of interest in office hijinks and getting lost in the battle between high-profile sageuks Gu Family Book … Continue reading →
As King Flower winds down, I’m trying to reach a state of zen whereby however this baby ends isn’t going to leave me a mess. I’m talking angry mess if Lin Guan Jun somehow gets a girl not named Hu Xiao Fei (because, let’s face it, even if he doesn’t get Da Hua, I hesitate to sic him on any … Continue reading →
I didn’t purposely neglect to share this awesome song when the Rich Man, Poor Woman SP first aired last month on April 1 (the airing date still feels like a joke without the punch line), but rather the actual track was not released until this week when singer-songwriter Miwa dropped her latest album called Delight. The album contains 11 tracks, … Continue reading →
So I took some folk’s suggestion and jumped back into Gu Family Book starting with episode 13. Don’t lie and argue that I needed to go back and fill in the last 8 episodes, ain’t nothing happened that needed to be watched and couldn’t be deduced swiftly upon diving into 13. If I want some Lee Seung Gi half man-beast … Continue reading →
Just when I thought Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love was hopelessly lost forever in a sea of makjang, stupid posturing, and painfully childish plotting, somehow this drama found a glimmer of its former thoughtfulness and glory in episode 14. It didn’t resurrect it completely, but the moments of sensibility here and there felt like a refreshing drink of water … Continue reading →
I’ve going to miss writing about King Flower. The recaps while swooning over Terry, the venting over the narrative impasse and the emotional misdirections, the preview translations that give me hope only to dash it when the episode airs. It’s been an exhilarating roller coaster ride and I sure hope I don’t barf when I get off when it pulls … Continue reading →
