Just as the upcoming sageuk Goddess of Fire Jeongi starts shooting next week for the kids section, the last main cast member has finally confirmed his involvement and leaving me so giddy I did the happy dance on my chair and almost tumbled over. Kim Bum, who has been in Vietnam this past week for entertainment activities, will indeed make … Continue reading →
We have yet another week of Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love to look forward to, this drama singlehandedly making Mondays bearable again. My gripe that the written previews have been so stingy is mollified with a super juicy video preview. But I’m once again totally perplexed by why there is still no glimpse of second male lead Jae Hee. … Continue reading →
TW idol dramas are exactly what its name implies – the lure are the actors and the story is merely the canvas to showcase them. Rarely are the stories memorable or worthwhile to ponder, but occasionally some fantastic acting or chemistry makes the drama a satisfying outing. Initially King Flower was supposed to the vehicle to reunite Sonia Sui and … Continue reading →
So, um, don’t shoot the messenger, okay? For those of you unaware of the source material for Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love, it’s adapted from a recent chick lit Korean novel of the same name. Much like The Moon Embraces the Sun (and Sungkyunkwan Scandal) was similarly adapted from same-name novels, there appears to be a little niche publishing … Continue reading →
Well this is different enough to be either rocking or an abominable mess. When Director Tsai did Black & White it could have been a giant mess of a stinker and yet it took Taiwan dramas to a whole new level. Could this do it again? Cable network TVBS is producing its first idol drama called Flying Past Dragon Gate … Continue reading →
I can’t tell you how many names have been bandied about for Sword and Flower – Kim Nam Gil, Song Seung Heon, Park Shin Hye, Song Joong Ki, Yoona, Song Dam Bi, the list goes on – but now the cast is finally set its pretty much so powerhouse people will need to take tranquilizers to calm down from watching … Continue reading →
I get that there isn’t a single entertainer that looks as beautiful or handsome in real life as onscreen. Thanks to the magic of make up and camera lens and editing, what we see is a very idealized version of some pretty good looking people. With that said, seeing Jang Geun Seok looking truly terrible at the airport last week … Continue reading →
I really am controlling myself from over-gushing about Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love. It is beyond anything I expected or could have hoped for, that was how low my expectations were going into this drama. I watched it after recapping episode 1 of Gu Family Book expecting an epic mess and a good laugh, and look where I am … Continue reading →
Being addicted to King Flower is like constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. I don’t trust SETTV to be using Terry to pull up the ratings (and episode 16’s rating took an quantum leap and almost broke 2, making it the second highest rated episode to date) while secretly padding the way for an inevitable Guan Jun-Da Hua … Continue reading →
I think Korean daily dramas can be unexpected treasure troves of awesome. One of my favorite dramas last year was the cable network jTBC daily I live in Cheongdamdong, easily heads and shoulders better than most of the primetime dramas I’ve watched. Some of my favorite actors I discovered through dailies, such as falling for Kang Ji Hwan when he … Continue reading →
There will be two goddesses on the air come July, but in totally different eras and worried about totally different things. Moon Geun Young’s sageuk return in Goddess of Fire Jeongi is almost done casting and has already started script reading, garnering lots of attention for the cast and subject matter. Much more low key is the upcoming weekend drama Goddess … Continue reading →
I wasn’t expecting this until the Summer, but looks like GTV wants to bring out some familiar big guns to try and rescue its prolonged period of bad ratings for Sunday night. The Taiwanese drama adaptation of You’re Beautiful has been given the English title of Fabulous Boys and is premiering on May 12th on GTV. That means Spring Love … Continue reading →
Episode 8 of Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love might’ve turned the switch on for some drama viewers on the fence about watching, but I’ve been all-in since episode 1 and what made this episode a fantastic gripping one was not the rain kiss but everything else that led up to it. This was not about seeing Yoo Ah In … Continue reading →
