Dramas oftentimes are not received equally by the local viewing population and the overseas brethren. It’s easy for each side to deride the other for having bad taste, but it’s not really that easy to explain. It’s more like people have different tastes, and that’s a good thing. Last year’s K-drama ratings champion Baker King Kim Tak Gu barely made … Continue reading →
I’m the kind of drama fan that one good performance can really change the way I view an actor. Prior to My Princess, Kim Tae Hee was on my shit list, despite her sunny disposition and inability to take a bad picture. But after MP, while I’ll never consider her a good actress, her performance as Lee Seol was just … Continue reading →
Hhhmm, not bad, not bad at all. The first trailer for Poseidon has dropped, and it’s piqued my interest somewhat. The action looks sharp and the actors look great together. While I don’t think this drama is going for major angst the way IRIS did (and Athena tried), it’s nice to see that it’s a serious procedural, though likely with … Continue reading →
Damn those Taiwan tabloids and their propensity to sensationalize everything. Since news broke of Ariel Lin‘s new romance back in May (though the romance started earlier than that), the TW-media has been keen on conjuring up salacious gossip on the set of In Time With You between Ariel and her second male lead Sunny Yang, simply because they have quite … Continue reading →
It’s out! The upcoming TW/C drama Happy Michelin Kitchen with Blue Lan and Cheryl Yang (the final part of the Happy trilogy of dramas) has just released it’s 30-minute trailer promptly as it wrapped filming this week. This drama is progressing on the exact same schedule as it’s predecessor Sunny Happiness, and will air simultaneously in Taiwan and China next … Continue reading →
Sundays are heating up again for TW-dramas. Drunken to Love You‘s follow up Office Girls is rocketing up in ratings for TTV, premiering above 2 and has already hit 3.5 by the second episode. Joining in the fray in three weeks will be In Time With You with Ariel Lin and Bolin Chen, which will air on FTV once Hayate … Continue reading →
Man, I do not want to be the drama going up against the upcoming TBS 60th anniversary dorama/annual KimuTaku offering Nankyoku Tairiku, which premieres October 16, 2011 on Sundays. This will surely wash the stink of Tsuki no Koibito off, because who can resist Kimura Takuya in a period drama (set in the 50s), in an exotic locale (filmed on location in … Continue reading →
Lately everyone is rightfully swooning over Ji Sung‘s performance in Protect the Boss, but his girlfriend Lee Bo Young actually has her own drama Hooray for Love airing on the weekends right now as well. With their crazy shooting schedules they probably never see each other these days. But with a 7 year relationship in their pockets, they are as … Continue reading →
So here’s the dealio on Ouran High School Host Club – I’m so massively second lead shipping that I’m almost zoning out on everything else, which is not good since I’m supposed to be recapping rather than spazzing. I’ll try to stay focused, but smack me if you guys think I’m flailing too much. Like all good ensemble dramas, this … Continue reading →
Jung Woo Sung and Kim Tae Hee prove, for me at least, the adage that great onscreen pairings isn’t always about talent or acting ability as it is about the ephemeral thing called chemistry. LG Dios has teamed them up again (after they collaborated on the big budget movie The Restless) to sell it’s new line of kimchee fridges. They … Continue reading →
Wut wut? Koala wants to write about Ryo but she feels guilty because she’s promised her love forevermore to her Pi and she’s only allowed to love one NEWS boy? What’s a Koala to do? Easy, make it a bromance post, of course! I have no good reason why Yamapi (Yamashita Tomohisa) has already starred in two of my bromance … Continue reading →
This episode moved the company and succession politics to the forefront of the drama, but in a way that was intricately tied to digging into the complications in the romantic developments. Eun Seol doesn’t want to live in their complicated and foreign world of money and succession. So what does both men do? They think about what she said, take … Continue reading →
Yoon Kye Sang is gearing up for the upcoming third installment of the popular sitcom High Kick, where he will be playing a doctor again (of Western medicine this time). I never watch sitcoms so will pass on this one yet again, but the first two installments were wildly popular so this one ought to be no different and great … Continue reading →
