We’re past the midway point of tvN drama Yumi’s Cells, which is slated for a 14-episode run. It’s supposed to also have a second season but for now I’m just enjoying the drama as is without worrying too much about the future. The relationship of Yumi and Woong has progressed at light speed for K-drama time line but the story, … Continue reading →
While Netflix is understandably getting all the buzz recently in the K-drama sphere, there remains plenty of quality talent and projects proliferating elsewhere and in 2022 none is more star-studded than the Noh Hee Kyung penned K-drama Our Blues. It’s an omnibus style story intersecting various characters living and returning to Jeju Island. The pairings will be Lee Byung Hun … Continue reading →
Okay, there is no way to soft pedal this but HOMG is upcoming sageuk drama Inspector Joy (Secret Royal Inspector and Jo Yi) going to be a laugh riot likely for the wrong reasons. The latest released stills of male lead Taecyeon is like a lesson for what NOT TO DO in a sageuk. He’s basically doing a Stephen Chow … Continue reading →
Seeing this news brings back all the feels, I can’t believe how underrated this K-drama was among the broader viewing audience, it’s really just a gem. C-ent announced that it’s remaking 2019 romance K-drama One Spring Night which starred Han Ji Min and Jung Hae In and directed by famed PD Ahn Pan Seok. It’s like the everything is better … Continue reading →
Most K-dramas telegraph with giant neon blinking lights what it’s genre and concept is, so it’s a refreshing and kinda nervous approach I see with upcoming tvN drama Happiness. With such a title it screams bright and happy human drama type but alas it’s anything but. The story is set in a modern high rise residential building where the two … Continue reading →
Well this is no bueno, but probably not a career ending type of scandal. K-actor Choi Jin Hyuk made all the K-ent headlines today for being the most famous person in a 50-plus guest list bust by the police of an illegally operating bar establishment during a sweep. Illegal meaning no bars are allowed to operate right now during level-4 … Continue reading →
It’s week 5 of Lovers of the Red Sky and after last week’s relatively dull and plodding two episodes the drama resumed being a delicious slice of sageuk crack. Ha Ram activates his alter ego Demon Mode in the middle of the Palace (oopsie) but Prince Yangmyeong gets knocked out so doesn’t remember but Chun Gi nearly gets strangled to … Continue reading →
I feel like I’ve seen the above stills before, oh like exactly a decade ago haha. I’m talking about Dream High which was Kim Soo Hyun‘s breakout drama and his styling as Song Sam Dong looks like he hasn’t aged a day to now his styling as a college student accused of murder in upcoming Coupang Play drama One Ordinary … Continue reading →
Writing about Yumi’s Cells is hard because it doesn’t lend itself to any singular bucket of good, bad, weird, etc. Six episodes in it’s a layer cake, a beautifully constructed one with plenty of surprises but it’s not the full meal we may want for a balanced diet. Episodes 5-6 continue to move the Yumi-Woong romance light speed ahead, with … Continue reading →
The largesse of the success of Netflix drama Squid Game has benefitted every single cast members, as written about before everyone’s Instagram followers rose exponentially. But probably the biggest breakout from the supporting cast has to be model turned actress Jung Ho Yeon (known as Ho Yeon Jung in Hollywood) who played the North Korean defector. Her Insta increased the … Continue reading →
It feels like the a scrum with the sageuk crowding so upcoming SBS romance drama Now, We are Breaking Up may be the right modern drama to break up the period domination. The network kicked off the promotions with the release of first stills of leads Song Hye Kyo and Jang Ki Yong as well as the script reading pictures … Continue reading →
Filming has kicked off for the K-movie Land of Happiness, which is so talent packed it makes me squee with joy. The movie will headline Jo Jung Seok, Lee Seon Kyun, and Yoo Jae Myung, each a male lead on his own and together a triumvirate of the nicest group of best K-actors around. The movie is about a lawyer … Continue reading →
Sageuk romances are by nature restrained and less is said/done is more presentation due to the characters living in an historical era of emphasis on etiquette and form. The upcoming MBC drama The Red Sleeve Cuff seems to be taking that to the extreme, it’s sooooooo implied that the new poster above seems to have court lady Lee Se Young … Continue reading →
