This week KBS 1980’s period romance Youth of May wrapped up and perhaps the cheerful posters and seemingly innocent romance setting mislead viewers or the production chose to downplay all the Gwangju Uprising backdrop, the ending was of course T-raumatic with a capital T. That happens, it’s happened to me a lot watching twenty years worth of K-dramas. The early … Continue reading →
I feel like I’ve seen this show before – the ingenue that comes out of nowhere and after one memorable role is cast in a succession of high profile gigs, and then kinda doesn’t live up to expectation. The last bit hasn’t happened (yet) but K-actress Han So Hee is definitely the It Girl of 2021 after playing the mistress … Continue reading →
The career trajectory of K-actress Moon Geun Young hasn’t gone into hibernation like Won Bin or slow slide into being forgotten like Yoon Eun Hye, but she’s definitely someone I didn’t think would be working this infrequently in dramas and movies. I thought she would do at least 1 a year but now it’s more like 1 every three years. … Continue reading →
The fantasy genre in K-dramas continues to go strong and up next is streaming platform TVING with Welcome to Witch’s Restaurant. I’ll confess to probably letting this one slip by but for the fact that it stars Nam Ji Hyun and rising rookie actor Chae Jong Hyeob which is enough for me to check out, and I’m not allergic to … Continue reading →
When I look back on Kang Han Na‘s career I realized I saw her when she made her K-drama debut and actually remember it. She debuted on Miss Korea (just an amazing and woefully underrated drama) as one of the Miss Seoul contestants. She won but was disqualified for lying about her status, she actually have birth before and that … Continue reading →
This drama may be the most critically acclaim packed even before it airs thanks to the cast and crew. jTBC drama Human Disqualification (Disqualified as a Human or No Longer Human) will star Jeon Do Yeon and Ryu Jun Yeol, and be directed by acclaimed movie director Hur Jin Ho in his first drama series helmed. Normally I would say … Continue reading →
This week SBS did a program 2021 Showcase which featured discussion and first look stills of upcoming dramas on its calendar. I was drooling with excitement when it got to the upcoming romance drama Now, We are Breaking Up with Song Hye Kyo and Jang Ki Yong. It’s set in the fashion industry which always elicits a groan from me … Continue reading →
Recently concluded KBS period romance and political drama Youth of May is only screenwriter Lee Kang‘s second full length drama, after Spy and also doing drama specials. I love love love male lead Lee Do Hyun but didn’t like the promos much and also feel rather bland towards female lead Go Min Si so I didn’t end up watching when … Continue reading →
Wowowowow, what a huge casting new for K-ent and the expansion of the next generation of South Korean stars. Plenty have broken into Hollywood such as Lee Byung Hun and Bae Doo Na but not yet the current crop of K-drama big names until now. Park Seo Joon has reportedly been cast in the upcoming big budget MCU movie The … Continue reading →
Okay, there’s a lot to unpack here. Despite the K-netizens going on an anti-Chinese culture in K-dramas attack earlier this year which played one part in the cancellation of Joseon Exorcist and concerns over Chinese PPL in K-dramas so some were removed, one of the big name Chinese novel adaptation into a K-drama appeared to also be in jeopardy of … Continue reading →
There are six more episodes left for MBN sageuk drama Bossam: Stealing Fate and it continues to excel at everything it does, on track to be the best period drama for the first half of 2021 and perhaps the entire year. A big achievement was hit in episode 13 this Saturday at the highest AGB nationwide rating hit 8.648% which … Continue reading →
The child actors of hit MBC sageuk The Moon Embraces the Sun were the shining stars of the cast, getting a long 6-episode run to set the stage and since then each and every one has gone on to success. Yeo Jin Gu played the crown prince and Im Shi Wan as the older brother of the female lead and … Continue reading →
SBS hasn’t been quick on the draw in defusing the collective angry reaction from drama viewer’s to the Penthouse season 3 twist that Park Eun Seok the actor would be back on the show but not as Logan Lee instead as his bomb ass rich gangster brother Alex Lee. Usually drama twists elicit differing opinions but I yet to come … Continue reading →
