Art isn’t something I expect to find in a K-drama, and it’s usually the opposite as many productions struggle to even craft decent posters and title designs. I was pleasantly surprised to see a full title opening for tvN drama Encounter (Boyfriend), an illustrated fairy tale-esque rendering of a princess, her rescuer, castles and winged horses, all the elements of … Continue reading →
K-actress Han Ye Seul had a rough 2018 on her personal health front with a botched surgery earlier in the year but appears to have fully recovered. She’s been doing more public events and this week attended a skincare brand CF event looking high spirited and quite chic with blondish long wavy hair, little black short dress and an eye … Continue reading →
Filming is underway for the next tvN Wed-Thurs drama called Touch Your Heart. It’s based on a webtoon of the same name about a top starlet who goes incognito as a secretary for a famous and successful lawyer to gain experience for her next role. The top actress and an attractive professional romance is currently being done with the MBN … Continue reading →
I legit breathed a sigh of relief after nervously hitting play on episode 6 of tvN Sat-Sun drama Memories of Alhambra. If it continued to stay narratively and emotionally limpid I was tempted to cut my losses despite Hyun Bin killing it (pun intended) in his role of Jin Woo. Thank goodness episode 6 righted the ship and not a … Continue reading →
I don’t think the star power of MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards) has dimmed yet and in 2018 the three location ceremony was dominated by the biggest boyband of the year BTS so plenty of people tuned in. I watched a bit just for the hosts – Jung Hae In in Korea, Park Bo Gum in Japan, and Song Joong … Continue reading →
For a 2018 prolific K-drama year with plenty of actor breakouts including Jang Ki Young and Woo Do Hwan, I’m giving my favorite and most memorable breakout actor to veteran musical, drama, and film supporting actor Jang Seung Jo. After his banner three-drama turn in 2018 the man is due for his upgrade to leading status. What’s incredible is that … Continue reading →
I’m legit flummoxed and frustrated with tvN Sat-Sun drama Memories of Alhambra, and those are not the f-words I wanted to feel towards this highly anticipated drama. Five episodes in the directing is way wonky, some scenes are dragged out unnecessarily and the pace is off with how events are being revealed and character interactions used. Episode 5 saw more … Continue reading →
The cast of tvN period drama Mr. Sunshine continue to win accolades and this time the two leads top the just released Gallup poll of Korean audiences’ favorite K-drama stars. Lee Byung Hun came in first followed by his costar Kim Tae Ri, proving that Mr. Sunshine left a strong impression on top of the successful ratings. Third was 2018 … Continue reading →
I love hearing about the successes of the up-and-coming and this latest worthwhile effort also yielded a reportedly very cute and watchable K-drama. MBC drama Terius Behind Me was billed as a spy thriller conspiracy and turned out to be a heartwarming and rather comedic family drama. While male lead So Ji Sub has a long body of work and … Continue reading →
Talk about doubling down on two of the fasting rising K-actors in 2018 for a challenging project for both. Yang Se Jong and Woo Do Hwan have been offered the male lead roles in upcoming jTBC early 2019 sageuk drama titled My Country. They play best friends turned enemies by their status and opportunities in life, and form a friendship … Continue reading →
I’m sure this post will generate the usual Suzy is going to ruin the drama commentary and honestly it’s 50/50 that’s going to happen. In the meantime she’ll look very pretty onscreen even if she’s not emoting or emoting in the wrong way lol. The girl is here to stay in drama land and there is nothing arm chair casting … Continue reading →
I was just writing about K-actress Jung So Min, after her appearance at the Japan leg of the 2018 MAMA, about doing a next project with host and K-actor Park Bo Gum because I think they would be fantastic onscreen together. That wish will have to wait because Jung So Min is confirmed for a a sageuk romantic movie as … Continue reading →
Watching tvN Wed-Thurs drama Encounter (Boyfriend) actually makes my heart hurt, in good ways of course but there is genuine palpitations and constrictions elicited by the softest of gestures and emotions. This isn’t a drama of action, totally the opposite of Song Hye Kyo‘s last blockbuster Descendants of the Sun, and her chemistry with Park Bo Gum as as good … Continue reading →
