This news makes me so happy and the timing couldn’t be more perfect. J-actor Matsumoto Jun is confirmed to make a cameo appearance in the upcoming J-dorama adaptation of the sequel manga to Hana Yori Dango. The story about the new generation of students at the storied high school is called Hana Nochi Hare (Hana Yori Dango: The Next Season) … Continue reading →
The idea of young judges is not an impossibility in the South Korean legal system since a graduate of law can take the exam to become a judge straight out of school. With that said, it’s still going to make me snicker a bit when I see Go Ara and L both playing judges in the upcoming jTBC drama Miss … Continue reading →
The problem with a talented coming-up-through-the-ranks K-actress is that she inevitably plays a super annoying second female lead, and if that’s my first introduction to said actress then it’s a higher bar for them to win my affection once they earn the merits to graduate to female lead roles. With that said, Seo Ye Ji somehow manages to impress me … Continue reading →
The upcoming K-drama adaptation of the US legal show Suits is the second most anticipated legal drama this spring for me, after the fists first rumbling Lawless Lawyer on tvN. The pairing of a seasoned top lawyer with a young upstart is the mentor-mentee both wins dynamic of Suits, and in many ways Jang Dong Gun‘s over two decades long … Continue reading →
The last time the Hong Sisters wrote a halfway decent K-drama it was with Gong Hyo Jin paired with So Ji Sub in The Master’s Sun so it’s a nice treat five years later to see the two in the same project albeit in a cameo settling. Gong Hyo Jin made a guest starring appearance in the romance fantasy movie Be … Continue reading →
I’m so in! The first teaser is out for Meteor Garden 2018, the TW/C-drama latest adaptation of the perennially popular shoujo manga Hana Yori Dango (Boys Before Flowers), and it looks like the ideal summer guilty pleasure drama watch. The drama is being produced by the same producer who did the 2001 Taiwan hit that launched so many careers of … Continue reading →
Given the conflicting two words in the drama title being Lawless Lawyer, I did wonder which side the drama would tip into. From the just released first teaser this weekend, it’s totally the lawless side as the drama looks like a K-movie gangster noir though not nearly as stylistic as Cruel City went. Leads Lee Jun Ki and Seo Ye … Continue reading →
The bar continues to be raised by screenwriter Kim Eun Sook as she conquers the K-drama romance world one genre at a time. Her last hit Goblin was centuries spanning with fantastical elements, the one prior to that was Descendants of the Sun taking the leads to a war and disaster ridden developing country. It’s now three months away from … Continue reading →
Justice is served but somehow it doesn’t feel cathartic, at least to me. Embattled and impeached former South Korea President Park Geun Hye has been sentenced by the court to 24 years in jail and a fine of 18 billion won ($16.9 million) for her corruption and abuse of office during her term of presidency which started off historically in 2013 … Continue reading →
I’m excited for this pairing and happy with the confirmation news today that K-actress Park Min Young will be starring in the upcoming tvN romance drama Why Secretary Kim. Her male lead is the already confirmed and current K-drama It Leading Man Park Seo Joon. The drama will follow currently airing Wed-Thurs drama My Ahjusshi and transition from a darker … Continue reading →
The 2018 54th Annual Baeksang Awards nominees are out and honestly each year I care a smidge less because I watch less of all the offerings and also the older one gets the less emotionally invested in these show affairs. On the television side which I at least watched more than the K-movies, the Best Drama nominees were led by … Continue reading →
I think every actor and actress involved with the tvN fantasy drama Hwayugi (A Korean Odyssey) deserves to take a long and leisurely break. It was clearly a laborious affair plagued by early production woes and ended with a terribly written drama shot on a bargain budget. It’s a bummer that the second time Cha Seung Won got to work … Continue reading →
The mood for upcoming OCN drama Mistresses feels melancholy and captured beautifully in the recently released drama and character posters. Leads Han Ga In, Shin Hyun Bin, Choi Hee Seo, and Goo Jae Yee are each framed in subtle and different backdrops that evoke their varying emotinal moods of wistful, intrigued, concerned, and pensive. This is very well done and … Continue reading →
