The cross-border remake wave continues and it really does flow equally in all directions. Korea remakes Taiwan and Japanese dramas while China is lining up K-drama remakes like there’s no tomorrow. Up next is a remake with a twist that’s unique to the way C-dramas are filmed. China is remaking the hit cable drama Queen In Hyun’s Man to air … Continue reading →
It was the best of romantic starts as far as noona-dongsaeng romances go, it’s now hit the worst of road bumps faster than Hanae can take off her glasses. Kyou wa Kaisha Yasumimasu glides into episode 5 all roses and rainbows before stumbling and fumbling all the way to an episode ending that had me gasping out loud. Yu gets … Continue reading →
Since there was no Lee Tae Hwan in the High Cut pictorial with three out of five 5urprise members, I’ll rectify that now with a Lee Tae Hwan only pictorial post. I actually have a more substantive reason to wrap him into this post beyond finding him ridiculously adorable (character and performance) in the currently airing MBC drama Pride and … Continue reading →
I’ve liked Seo Kang Joon since I laid eyes on him in a supporting role in The Suspicious Housekeeper and the affection has continued with all his subsequent acting roles. The real life him is apparently not the brightest bulb in the shed, but with his looks he can coast on eye candy appeal for the near future while working on … Continue reading →
I can lead off the post with a discussion of how red hot Lee Min Ho‘s career continues to be in China after he lands yet another CF deal, this time for Kumho Tires. But I’m way more interested in his CF partner C-actress Crystal Liu‘s seemingly unending stream of partnering up with hot Korean male actors just this year … Continue reading →
There’s finally some good news on the domestic K-drama ratings front that spreads the love around. Last week MBC premiered Mr. Back (Mr. Baek) to the best ratings start of any prime time K-drama of 2014 despite it being in the mid-teens in ratings. It’s like winning the Olympic gold in the 100 meter sprint but having a time slower than … Continue reading →
Pinocchio is off to an excellent drama start after the second episode solidified the heart of the story without losing a beat from the quick first episode lead off. This particular story has picked a thematic conflict with broad based appeal, who hasn’t dealt with rumors big and small both as the spreader and as the recipient. News reporting is … Continue reading →
I didn’t follow Kai Ko‘s career during the red hot era this past three years since he burst out of nowhere with the box office hit movie You Are the Apple of My Eye. He made more movies and dated A-list Taiwanese songstress Elva Hsiao, all of which kept him firmly in the public eye even though he was just … Continue reading →
The Chinese media and fans love Kim Soo Hyun to the point where his every up and down to left and right needs to be covered. Last week he was snapped incognito in a NYC subway on a personal holiday and it made the landing page of the C-ent news portals. The even bigger news surrounding Kim Soo Hyun last … Continue reading →
The perfect one word description for the first episode of the highly anticipated new SBS Wed-Thurs drama Pinocchio is relief. It’s a relief this drama’s first episode is already better than whatever nuggets of quality was in its predecessor My Lovely Girl. It’s an even greater relief that this story starts off hitting all the right notes in constructing a narratively … Continue reading →
The nominees are out for the 51st annual Grand Bell Awards, the Korean equivalent of the Academy Awards to honor the industry’s best and brightest films and movie stars for the calendar year. This year the only K-movie I watched from the list of Best Film nominees was The Admiral: Roaring Currents, which judging by its runaway box office receipts pretty much … Continue reading →
Breezy romance K-movie Today’s Love released its first teaser stills today for a sneak peek at the reunion onscreen romance between Lee Seung Gi and Moon Chae Won. They both shot to drama land stardom (along with Han Hyo Joo) in the unexpected hit weekend drama Shining Inheritance/Brilliant Legacy, one of those addicting yarns that doesn’t sound interesting until one … Continue reading →
I’m trying to keep my expectations low for Pinocchio which premieres in mere hours on Wednesday night in Korea on SBS. Forget the hyped up casting of Lee Jong Seok and Park Shin Hye, or whatever residual audience love remains for the production team from it’s last drama I Hear Your Voice. What I really want to see is an … Continue reading →
