Rain is sure washing the stink off his last K-drama My Lovely Girl as quickly as possible. He was in China all last week promoting his just released romance melodrama C-movie For Love or Money costarring Chinese screen goddess Crystal Liu. The movie is garnering decent reviews but even better is lots of praise of Crystal’s improved acting and Rain’s … Continue reading →
Two high profile upcoming K-dramas happened to release second male lead casting news today so don’t mind if I combine it into one post. The fact that both dramas are about male leads suffering from multiple personality disorder can serve as the loose thread tying these two dramas together. Coming to MBC in January of 2015 is the male-lead-with-7-personalities romance … Continue reading →
Time to check back in on the wrapped filming C-drama You Are My Sunshine starring phenomenally popular actors du jour Wallace Chung and Tang Yan. I like them both well enough but it’s the combination of their appeal with a pretty darn decent romance novel story plot that has me keen on watching this sucker. It’s sane and sweet with enough … Continue reading →
This will come as great news to So Ji Sub fans, whether long-standing or newer ones after his fantastic turn in The Master’s Sun, thinking he is likely not doing any acting this year since all the remaining year end K-dramas have been cast. Surprising news dropped today that So Ji Sub has been in Jeju Island for the last … Continue reading →
I’m a little bit rooting for Park Min Young‘s career now that she climbed back out of a major nearly two year long slump. She’s not a fave of mine and frankly the only performance of hers I’ve ever liked was in the horrible written KBS drama Man of Honor (Glory Jane). That drama tried my brain cells and patience … Continue reading →
There’s an upcoming K-movie that that just finished casting and about to start filming that sounds entertaining on concept alone. The movie is called Beauty Inside and tells the story of an adult marriage-aged man who suffers from an unexplained condition whereby he wakes up every morning as a completely different person on the outside. He changes age, gender, and nationality … Continue reading →
It’s been much too quiet in entertainment news lately so either a real scandal is going to arrive or a manufactured one. Turns on it’s the latter but the C-media jumped on this one as fast as a ravenous dog on a bone. Within hours after a random weibo poster claimed that Liu Shi Shi cheated on her boyfriend Nicky … Continue reading →
Sometimes it may feel like fandom response may be strong enough to influence a project but that rarely if ever happens. Entertainment operates on basically the same principles as all money-making enterprises with a myriad of reasons behind casting and production that are beyond the scope of pure art that viewers may want to see. With that said, I haven’t … Continue reading →
It’s a bummer that working with Rain in My Lovely Girl didn’t make Krystal a better actress, she not only made MLG worse it also cut off Rain’s streak a bit. With the premiere this weekend of Rain and Crystal Liu‘s romance melodrama movie For Love or Money, early reviews pouring in have confirmed what I saw in the trailers. Long … Continue reading →
I thought SBS was done with Pinocchio promo stuff after holding the press conference and releasing the long preview but I was wrong as the production has dropped a few more nuggets of goodness this weekend. The focus on the promos have been on the teenage time period for the two leads even though most of the drama is set … Continue reading →
No matter how much I like an entertainer, I’m never happy to see someone getting overexposed and/or overrated. The barometer is actual talent and potential versus how much the current public affection is elevating it to an unsustainable threshold. Case in point Kim Soo Hyun‘s meteroric rise, a career trajectory that is objectively an envy for any entertainer out there but … Continue reading →
Thank the drama gods for the arrival of a new episode Kyou wa Kaisha Yasumisu right after a particularly dreadful K-drama just ended. Sure the wonderfully warm nuanced KwKY would stand up on its own as a thoughtful well-executed romance drama, but the comparison to much lesser fare only serves to illuminate clear what makes this story so well crafted. … Continue reading →
The nominees are out for the 2014 APAN Star Awards, yet another glittery awards ceremony and this one in particular is a recent new arrival on the awards scene in the last few years. It’s connected to the Daejeon Drama Festival and is limited to dramas that ran from November 1st 2013 through September 31, 2014 on all three major networks … Continue reading →
