Dr. Stranger is a drama that not even a spell from a magic wand can save. If this drama ends with Hoon and Jae Hee happily every after and all the bad guys punished, it still wouldn’t be a good drama since the entire middle section was tanked by circular wheel spinning. If this drama ends with Hoon suddenly falling … Continue reading →
It’s probably pure happenstance that one big-budget sageuk K-movie wrapped filming the exact same time another big-budget sageuk K-movie started filming. Hopefully the premiere dates won’t be in direct competition because I’m sure there’s enough audience members fans of each cast to go around. The Royal Tailor (Sanguiwon) starring Han Suk Kyu, Go Soo, Park Shin Hye, Yoo Yeon Suk, … Continue reading →
There is finally a straight up light and comedic romance C-drama on the horizon and this one looks absolutely fantastic. Bonus win for having two leads I adore in Hans Zhang and Zhao Li Ying, marking their first onscreen pairing but likely won’t be the last with how idol C-dramas recycle couplings all the time. The drama premieres next week … Continue reading →
With critically acclaimed young actress Shim Eun Kyung declining the leading lady role for the upcoming Fall K-adaptation of Nodame Cantabile, the plum role was up for grabs and I’ve even postulated a handful of young actresses that are either suitable or likely to fall on the network’s radar when it comes time to cast. Joo Won has already been … Continue reading →
I’m going into the finale week of Dr. Stranger with complete carefree abandonment. I literally do not care anymore about what might happen, so without any invested emotion then there is no way the final two episodes will upset me. Of course if the insanity manages to outdo itself then the added insult to my intelligence might raise my ire … Continue reading →
With the upcoming court ordered mediation between former EXO member Kris (Wu Yi Fan) and SM Entertainment over his contract cancellation lawsuit, it’s no surprise that more “scandals” would emerge leading up to the mediation date scheduled on July 8th. This past weekend the Korean media exclusively reported, after being tipped off by an anonymous Chinese entertainment official, that Kris was … Continue reading →
Folks ask me all the time when so-and-so prefilmed C-drama will air and honestly its a big unknown with tentative air dates often getting moved around. With that said, sometimes a network randomly shoehorns in an airing at the last minute, and that’s what likely happened with Zhejiang Network‘s premiere on July 6th of the drama Go, Single Lady (Chinese title 真愛遇到他 … Continue reading →
I don’t know about you but it’s been a disappointing Summer movie season for me so far. I don’t need my movies to make all that much sense but it ought to ignite the sense of fun and passion in me. It can be popcorn but it damn well better be tasty cracktastic popcorn. So far it’s been stale popcorn … Continue reading →
No one can ever accuse Rainie Yang of being unable to act because she has the same one facial expression. To the contrary, she’s had to work hard to really reign herself in with a tendency to have a hundred different expressions some of which are delightfully animated. She’s like a walking manga shoujo heroine, with a saltier real life … Continue reading →
I can’t believe SBS is dangling Lee Hong Ki in front of me so I’ll pencil the network in for the Fall season already. Aish, I hate committing so early, like all drama players it’s safer to play hard-to-get, yes? I’m also currently annoyed with SBS for its Mon-Tues offering that almost fried my brain so it’s a double ask … Continue reading →
It’s still two months away from the premiere of The Three Musketeers on cable network tvN, but the cast and crew have assembled for filming already because the drama is aiming to be pre-filmed as much as possible. Such a wise decision, I wish more dramas would have confidence in its story integrity to do that rather than the live … Continue reading →
I wonder if it’s as painful for the actors in Dr. Stranger to soldier on until the end as it has been as a viewer to stick with it. I am invested enough, against all reason, to want to know how the scriptwriter plans to end it all. Jae Joon finally does something in episode 18 but I have a … Continue reading →
KBS is going to stick with the romance genre in the Mon-Tues slot even after Lovers of Music (Trot Lovers) wraps up. On deck is Discovery of Romance with the eclectic but interesting lead cast of Eric, Jung Yumi, Sung Joon, and Yoon Jin Yi. Add to it a fantastic supporting cast of Yoon Hyun Min (Cruel City, Age of Feeling, … Continue reading →
