You win some you lose some, and TW-actor Roy Qiu‘s career is a open book example of all the high and lows. From his promising early days to dating tabloid stories that overshadowed his acting projects to now transitioning successfully into film, he’s been one of Taiwan’s most talented actors despite his prickly personality off screen as a purported love … Continue reading →
There’s a new remake of It Started With a Kiss (Itazura na Kiss) in the works and this one doesn’t elicit the immediate response of why bother which is actually good sign. There are so many versions of ISWAK out there and I’ve like quite a few of them – the Taiwan perfection with Ariel Lin and Joe Cheng, before … Continue reading →
The glitterati of K-ent was out in full force this week at the VIP movie premiere for gritty zombie sageuk movie Rampant (Outbreak) starring Hyun Bin and Jang Dong Gun. Adapted from a manhwa, the movie follows Crown Prince attempting to fight his way through what appears to be a zombie spread among the Joseon populace, and may be orchestrated … Continue reading →
Hallyu superstar actor Gong Yoo has picked his next acting project and it sounds super cool. He’s starring in a sci-fi action flick called Seo Bok (the Korean pronunciation of Xu Fu 徐福) who was the Chinese historical figure sent by Emperor Qin Shi Huang to sail and seek the fountain of youth. The movie Seo Bok is set in modern … Continue reading →
If this week’s sad showing of mostly second and third tier K-stars at the Korean Drama Awards, then it was the exact opposite at the opening night red carpet of the 2018 Busan International Film Festival where I felt so much high profile faces beaming for the cameras. The hosting MCs Kim Nam Gil and Han Ji Min walked the … Continue reading →
K-movie The Great Battle has won the battle (har har) for the box office in a high profile Chuseok holiday three-way skirmish with two other big star helmed movies. Jo In Sung’s sageuk bloody epic The Great Battle came in first in the South Korean box office, with 4.52 million admissions over a 12 day release period. The other sageuk … Continue reading →
It’s a cute coincidence and also a testament to the enduring success of the three actors in question. Most K-drama and K-movie fans. This weekend the Korean box office has a three-way battle for supremacy with three high profile movies premiering on Friday – The Negotiation with Son Ye Jin and Hyun Bin, fortune-telling sageuk Feng Shui (Myeong Dang) with … Continue reading →
It’s been 15 years since two very young K-actors was first starting out in their acting careers when they had a chance to work together and now they get a chance to reunite on the big screen. Gong Hyo Jin and Kim Rae Won are cast as the leads in romance movie The Most Ordinary Romance which is just described … Continue reading →
I feel like such a grumpy pants after seeing the Korean stars walk the VIP red carpet at the movie premiere for thriller The Negotiation starring Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin. Both leads were doing some sort of stylized granny and grandpa wear and other than the soft blue color of Son Ye Jin’s dress nothing is working for … Continue reading →
K-actor Yoo Ah In may court or elicit controversy but as an actor he’s been fairly impeccable in role selection across movies and dramas. If his latest movie Burning breaks out next year it may be thanks to its selection by South Korea to represent the country as the entry for Best Foreign Language Picture award at the 2019 Oscars. … Continue reading →
The posters and preview is out for fall 2018 K-movie Rampant (Outbreak) which takes the zombie genre and deposits it into Joseon Korea and hopefully this genre still has box office legs because I totally want it to be good for my bae Hyun Bin. He plays an exiled prince who returns from China to his country Joseon and finds … Continue reading →
This looks like the perfect movie for long flights, the kind of mindless and hopefully fun entertainment to help pass two hours quickly. Next week is the premiere of K-movie Monstrum with Kim Myung Min as a Joseon government official and warrior sent to slay an aquatic and land monster terrorizing the commoners and causing unrest for the nobles and … Continue reading →
I legit guffawed out loud when I laid eyes on K-actor Jo In Sung‘s outfit at the movie premiere for his period film The Great Battle. He went exactly opposite to his grizzled war general role in the film and delivered a true flower boy visual that proves he’s still got it even at 38 years old. Jo In Sung … Continue reading →
