When I saw paparazzi pictures of Taiwan actress Puff Guo and actor Jasper Liu (Liu Yi Hao) filming in a part at night and being super cute and chatty it totally revved up my dormant Taiwan drama interest. The two charming actors are reuniting for a new 2019 GTV TW-drama called Before We Get Married (We Cannot Be Friends) a … Continue reading →
I feel so so bad for TW actor-singer Aaron Yan because having his personal life plastered all over the tabloids because of a jealous ex is the worst kind of privacy airing revenge for a celebrity. That Aaron is likely gay is one of the most open secrets in Taiwan ent and tabloids for the last decade have openly written … Continue reading →
Maybe it’s the fall weather and the recent seismic shift in Asian drama viewing options but I’m in a nostalgic mood and one of the classic eras that passed naturally was the Taiwan idol dramas of the 2000s. Starting from Meteor Garden which was remade by a new cast this year in 2018 who may have just been born when … Continue reading →
This is such a sad story and one I doubt would get any coverage in English-language publications and I feel compelled to give this lovely actress her due. Former HK-actress Yammie Lam (Lan Jie Ying in Mandarin) was found dead in her home on November 1, 2018 a full two days after she died, alone and without family or friends … Continue reading →
Consider me pleasantly surprised and now even more excited for 2019 period C-drama Records of the Southern Mist House. I already loved the bookish and lyrical title, taken from the same name manhua that is the original source of the story, plus an addition layer of nostalgia for the Republic era setting, so feeling pumped after a great first teaser … Continue reading →
The case of top C-actress Fan Bing Bing getting smacked down by the tax hammer neatly fits the Chinese saying about the nail that sticks out the most. For many years running she’s been the top earning Chinese celebrity (by far) so when the Chinese authorities finally decided to crack down on tax fraud of course they were going to … Continue reading →
Whether the drama world is deserving or not, we finally have a near universally beloved breakout star in 2018 in the form of the dynamic and still very young and inexperienced Dylan Wang (Wang He Di). I’ll leave it to the fans of Hana Yori Dango drama adaptations to fight out who broke out the biggest – Dylan in Meteor … Continue reading →
I don’t know if the character of Domyouji Tsukasa (Dao Ming Si in Chinese) is what attracts the most unique and charismatic of male actors or its said actors elevating what would otherwise be an average role. Once again the breakout star of a Hana Yori Dango adaptation is the actor playing the male lead role, this time Dylan Wang … Continue reading →
The good promo trend continues as pretty official character posters are out for the soon-to-arrive 2018 Chinese and Taiwanese joint production remake of Meteor Garden from 2001. I love these tropical colored posters with the vibrant green and everyone looking their most darnest in portraying their iconic characters from the well known shoujo manga Hana Yori Dango (Boys Before Flowers). … Continue reading →
The arrival of a big budget C-drama like Legend of Fuyao next Monday on June 18th makes me feel like summer really is here. That and also I’m on vacation and personally know that summer has arrived heh, but in terms of drama watching I equate it with C-dramas launching their big tent pole offerings to bring in the most … Continue reading →
This is one remake that I have confidence will do justice to the original, if only because of the leading man attached. Filming has started on the C-drama remake of Misaeng, itself a popular Korean novel which was adapted into an even more popular K-drama starring Im Shi Wan and Lee Sung Min as the male leads. The C-version male … Continue reading →
Watching a C-drama requires taking some antacids and mentally prepping for endless cups of frustration. Even that doesn’t seem to be enough for those who watched recently aired romance Here to Heart, adapted from a novel so the story line should be all set but the drama nopes it ways into “dog blood” (i.e. makjang) territory anyways. Starring Hans Zhang … Continue reading →
I’m glad to hear that C-netizens hate the voice dubbing for the new Meteor Garden 2018 remake as much as I do. I think Chinese viewers and even many older Taiwanese drama viewers are used to dubbing, it’s a fact of life that that standard Mandarin is the default language on television and accomplished via dubbing when there are thousands … Continue reading →
