Last Friday GTV aired the first episode of new TW-drama Before We Get Married (We Cannot Be Friends) and thank you drama lords for giving me a new addiction back into TW-drama land! Starring Jasper Liu (Liu Yi Hao) and Puff Guo, the drama is addicting in that “bad for you but tastes so good” way, especially in transforming perennial … Continue reading →
Late last year I posted about cutie pie former drama costars Puff Guo and Jasper Liu (Liu Yi Hao) reuniting for a new TW-drama 5 years after doing the adorable cooking themed Love Myself or You. Their new drama premieres this week and ohlalala is it a 180 degree turnaround from the sweet and innocent prior collaboration. It’s called Before … Continue reading →
I’m going to preface, or remind if you read my blog from the early days, that I LOATH the K-drama Full House. I know it’s one of the hallmarks of Hallyu K-drama spread and cemented the popularity of leads Song Hye Kyo and Rain but holy illegal house selling schmolly do I hate it. I could not get over the … Continue reading →
If you’re in the middle of watching a period C-drama, whether historical, palace intrigue, fantasy, supernatural, or just any period real or made up that happens to look vaguely of the past, get ready for immediate watching blue balls. Chinese broadcast authorities have leveled up on it’s earlier in the year edict spurred on by the runaway success of Story … Continue reading →
Methinks someone in the Chinese broadcast authority has too much time on their hands. Hot on the news that court and palace themed C-dramas like the mega hit Story of Yanxi Palace were on the outs for promoting bad values of extravagance and plotting, the Chinese authorities are also cracking down on the use of entertainment kids to make money. … Continue reading →
When something is too popular it’s bound to get backlash in still communist ideology controlled Mainland China, bucking up against tighter controls over social and policy restrictions. The biggest C-drama of 2018 was by far Story of Yanxi Palace, followed by another court drama Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace. The two were quite similar in central depictions of a … Continue reading →
This year in 2018 there were plenty of surprises in C-dramas from what ended up being a hit to the big budget disappointments. Looking forward to 2019 I’m only tangentially eyeing what’s on the slate but one that interests me is solely because I love the female lead Ariel Lin. It’s her first period drama in five years since Prince … Continue reading →
The remake train didn’t quite hit this popular drama as much as some others but it’s now going on the 4th remake so I think it’s nearly reached the same level. China will be remaking super popular when it aired TW-drama Fated to Love You which rocketed both leads Chen Qiao En and Ethan Ruan (as well as second male lead … Continue reading →
In K-ent it always seems like the wrongdoers get away with it more easily but this is one misbehavior and likely criminal behavior that appears to be going down the proper legal channels. C-actor Jiang Jing Fu has turned himself into Japanese police for the charge of domestic violence, which is just assault and battery that happens in a home … Continue reading →
Not following an actor or actress means massive catchup to truly get the full picture and it’s been a doozy to see how far C-actor Jiang Jing Fu fell to hit rock bottom this week with his domestic violence admission. His career was sky high out of the gate signing with hitmaker Tangren Entertainment, the agency of Hu Ge and … Continue reading →
This is just a terrible situation all around and really disappointing that yet another star has shown their awful personal side. C-actor Jiang Jing Fu, one of the rising stars in the last five years and pitched as the next Hu Ge, is in the news this week after his Japanese girlfriend of 4-months posted pictures on her Instagram showing … Continue reading →
The People’s Daily newspaper is the official newspaper of the Communist party and always offers a clear insight into what is the government line. This week the paper published a strongly worded article about the tax evasion scandal in the entertainment world and reading between the lines it’s going to be neigh impossible for top actress Fan Bing Bing to … Continue reading →
C-actress Yang Mi has for a long time now gained a reputation as Wang Fu (aka Chinese slang for making one’s husband more successful). The phrase is applied to any woman toi marries a man and thereafter he remains/gets more successful, someone she’s given credit for not fucking up his life. For Chinese and Taiwanese actresses, the notion of Wang … Continue reading →
