Can we have an anticipatory standing ovation for the brilliance that is Nice Guy? Unless frogs start dropping from the sky in the final two episodes (I’m still pissed at you, Magnolia), this drama is hands down a masterful brilliant work of art that can take its place in the pantheon of great K-melodramas of all time. Its flaws are … Continue reading →
When it rains it pours – for Yuan Hong 2013 is starting to look like his breakout year. He’s already slated to headline the upcoming CCTV period drama Li’s Mansion about a real life epic turn-of-the-century family patriarch, but on top of that he may be attached to an even more hot project. Word on the street has mega-producer Zhang Ji … Continue reading →
Watching Missing You was a rather disjointed experience and took me a bit of time to process it all. I wasn’t quite sure of what to make of episode 1, which consisted solely of the child actors laying the foundation as well as revealing the parents generation story. Making good on its claim to fame of being a K-melodrama, Missing … Continue reading →
Hot diggity crap. Seriously? Nice Guy wants to continue tossing me side-to-side like a dog with a rag doll in its mouth? I. Cannot. Handle. This. Watching this drama requires more than just anti-anxiety medication, I’d prescribe myself sedatives with a side of painkillers. I just want to run around and plead to some unknown deity to make these feelings … Continue reading →
Before we even get to episode 17 of Nice Guy, the long preview for episode 18 comes out already. Is KBS trying to cause mass hysteria, because congratulations are in order because it has succeeded. I watched this preview with abject shock on my face, and it took me literally minutes before I could fully digest what I had just … Continue reading →
I think poster making is a true art form with very few people talented and creative enough to stand out from the crowd. With movies and television having been around for nearly a hundred years, the proliferation of posters has long ago reached a saturation point where it’s nearly impossible to do anything truly creative and the most one can … Continue reading →
Neither Han Hyo Joo nor Go Soo are my actor biases though I do like them very very much, so when I heard the same agency stars were paired up for the upcoming romance K-movie Love 911 (Korean title is called Bandage) I was quite intrigued and mildly excited. The movie filmed earlier this year and the first trailer was … Continue reading →
How does Song Joong Ki and Moon Chae Won stay so chipper during the filming of Nice Guy? Not only are they always giggling and guffawing and making funny faces at each other or the camera, neither of them are besieged with that horrible “I’m going to keel over and die soon” look of bone deep exhaustion that I typically … Continue reading →
Curse you, oh evil sirens from the production of Nice Guy! Those guys managed to keep me on my toes with each spoiler before an episode airs and then each reveal during the episode adds to the experience. I never get the feeling of been there-done that, and conversely I always feel like I’m watching something truly fascinating. Lee Kyung … Continue reading →
Oh shit oh shit oh shit….hyperventilating here. This might be some pre-election day leg pulling, something equal parts thrilling and saddening. It’s rendered me feeling like I’m bipolar and I don’t know whether I should laugh, cry, do both, or just go flail in the corner until I can behave like a human being again. Since leaving the army this … Continue reading →
I don’t think Missing You will have an insurmountable hurdle to climb in terms of being a moderate ratings hit over time. Nice Guy has the lead but its only recently broke 20 in ratings, plus it’s ending in two weeks. The Great Seer is one of the most unintentionally hilarious and weirdly sexed up dramas I’ve ever watched and … Continue reading →
I, and so many equally obsessed Nice Guy fans, will likely need to check into melodrama detox soon. Despite having cut my teeth on melodramas as my entry point into K-drama land, in general I’ve veered away from the genre since the newer products feel like stale retreads of older classics and the writers and actors tend to approach this … Continue reading →
I need someone to hold me before I collapse from laughing too hard. The first teaser and stills have been released for the upcoming C-movie adaptation of the K-drama Secret Garden, and I swear this looks as bad as I expected it would. And maybe just a smidge worse. Starring Wallace Chung, Tan Wei Wei, and Korean singer-actor Kangta, the … Continue reading →
