I really like this casting of the two young leads and feel like with the lack of liuliang baggage this could be a sleeper hit. Filming remains underway since late last year with period C-drama Legend of the Female General (锦月如歌 Jin Yue Ru Ge) starring Zhou Ye and Cheng Lei with both actually playing generals so it’s like a … Continue reading →
So this is making waves in C-ent this week and we’ll have to see if it ends up happening. Wang Yibo has been attached to the romance movie The Mermaid, not to be confused with the Stephen Chow directed movie of the same name, since last year and it’s now gaining steam to head into production. The female lead in … Continue reading →
So this is in the news but also has been denied swiftly so take it for what it’s worth. K-ent reported today that award winning top young actress Park Eun Bin is in talks for her next drama Hyper Knife and the more interesting thing is that her salary will be a whopping 300 million won per episode. That’s about … Continue reading →
OMG if this leading lady switch happens it’s such a downgrade, or maybe not purely from the drama storyline standpoint. Tencent has a S-plus budgeted period drama (set in Republic era China in Shanghai Bund) titled The Way You Back (Chinese title Yu Lan Hua Kai Jun Zai Lai or When the Magnolia Blooms He Will Return 玉蘭花開君再來) that is … Continue reading →
So after years of talks and planning, the K-drama remake of Goong (Princess Hours) is happening this year. Not sure if it will air this year but the filming is by all accounts definitely happening. The original is still beloved and for many just a wonderful fond memory of falling in love with K-dramas through Goong or one of its … Continue reading →
When it was announced early last year that C-ent was remaking the critically acclaimed K-drama My Ahjusshi (My Mister) I was one of the many who asked “why?” since the OG was still relatively recent and also pretty much perfect. But what a difference context and situation changing makes, with the death of My Ahjusshi male lead Lee Seon Kyun … Continue reading →
January 2024 is still the year of the rabbit as lunar new year is not until February 10th so maybe with the turn of the lunar year the lucks with change with C-dramas. The premieres of three high profile dramas are all considered flops within the industry and for varying side reasons but the same core principle – casting pretty … Continue reading →
I enjoyed Till the End of the Moon even if the writing went off the rails from time to time and overall it wasn’t a super memorable drama. The multiple lives and arcs freshened segments up and the visuals were top notch in both special effects and the lux costumes for both leads. The costuming in particular got a lot … Continue reading →
The shining winner of the weekend K-dramas (and by that I mean anything airing Fri-Sat or Sat-Sun) has to be MBC sageuk Knight Flower. The Honey Lee starring vehicle is nearly doubled in ratings since its premiere and the latest episode 6 got 12.5%. Prestige sageuk Captivating the King with Jo Jung Seok and Shin Se Kyung is steady in … Continue reading →
So Allen Ren is super busy with one drama filming after another but sadly for me the one I was looking forward to the most is in the same predicament as Liu Yu Ning and his upcoming dramas. While Liu Yu Ning’s Prisoner of Beauty is stuck as the prisoner of purgatory due to female lead Song Zu Er, same … Continue reading →
A little birdie in the industry casting mill has news that makes me super happy. Veteran leading man Wallace Chung will be doing a cameo appearance in the currently filming period C-drama Zang Hai Zhuan starring Xiao Zhan and Zhang Jing Yi. He will be playing Xiao Zhan’s father which makes his totally zaddy level and probably not long for … Continue reading →
Okay so this is a sigh of relief for me lol, because I want to keep looking forward to this drama. The period C-drama A Dream Within a Dream (书卷一梦 or A Dream Within a Book) has signed on Liu Yu Ning for some time and initially Li Yi Tong was the female lead. The it became Yang Chao Yue … Continue reading →
It was just a production scheduling screw up that Chinese Paladin 4 adaptation Sword and Fairy 4 and Chinese Paladin 6 adaptation Sword and Fairy (just that, no 6 in the title) aired at the exact same time. Okay, one day apart in premiere but who’s quibbling, or perhaps that’s exactly the same difference in it’s reception. Industry pundits are … Continue reading →
