I thought one mediocre Joseon prohibition era drama this year was one too many already but now there is a second one coming. Earlier this year I was totally underwhelmed with Moonshine (Thinking of the Moon When the Flowers Bloom) and now another sageuk is being prepped dealing with the same topic. Bootleg (Korean title Milje) has an offer to … Continue reading →
If the C-actresses are dressing way better than their K-counterparts on the red carpet, more diverse and experimental, they are also looking better makeup wise with rarely any overly BB-creamed face. K-actresses are so foundationally shellacked it detracts from the rest of the makeup technique but on the C-ent side there is apparently one top Chinese makeup artist by the … Continue reading →
I’m keeping expectations low for upcoming KBS drama Red Single Heart, because it’s a recipe for disappointment if I ride the high praise of recent sageuk The Red Sleeve Cuff and expect the same quality. With that said, this sageuk definitely has the pedigree on the casting of the leads – Lee Joon plays the young King, Kang Han Na … Continue reading →
Okay, this drama looks amazing but also creepy as heck. It gives off The Guest vibes and OMG I loved that drama so much even though it was heck hard to watch. The first posters and teaser is out for April 2022 TVing streaming drama Monstrous, giving 2021 breakout star Koo Kyo Hwan his first leading man role paired with … Continue reading →
The latest episode 8 of A Business Proposal wasn’t as snappy and uproariously charming as episode 7 but it maintained the high energy and movement forward. This episode also went back up over 10% in ratings to a new high of 10.8% and it’s well deserved because Ahn Hyo Seob is really much better in these two episodes which makes … Continue reading →
I’m on such a happy light drama buzz thanks to the early half of Forecasting Love and Weather and now A Business Proposal that this good vibe is extending to a lot of optimism for upcoming tvN drama Shooting Star. The new batch of stills and official poster are just average but Kim Young Dae is bringing a great sense … Continue reading →
Workplace romances seem to be coming back and another come is on the way in the form of jTBC drama Understanding of Love, based on the same name novel. It’s set in the branch office of a bank and deals with the work and interpersonal relationships of the bank employees. Judging from the book cover it’s not a rom-com but … Continue reading →
Man, if I could bottle this episode 7 of A Business Proposal I would because it’s just a perfect morsel, a petit four if you will of the exacting science of rom-com sweets. The ratings came in at 9.9% just a tiny bit decrease from episode 6 but it gave me the pun needed to call this episode a perfect … Continue reading →
The rise of Nam Joo Hyuk as a male lead took one of the oddest routes I recall. From his leading man turn early on in his career in School 2015, it was basically one step forward then one step back. That drama his character wasn’t as compelling as the second male lead and the same thing happened 5 years … Continue reading →
I wrote late last year about the spate of leading men impending discharges from the military in early 2022 and all those actors are now back. But I left out L (Kim Myung Soo) because his release was later, in the summer of 2022, but now it’s early spring so time to start looking forward to his return as well. … Continue reading →
I knew it was a little too good to last but Forecasting Love and Weather did keep me interested through the midway point of airing at least. Last weekend I was starting to space out and this weekend’s episodes 11-12 really proved the storytelling has stalled somewhere between a real problem and not a problem at all. Ha Kyung and … Continue reading →
I feel like this is a controversy from another era, or that it really just doesn’t apply here when a viewer actually sees the specifics of the story. Nevertheless this weekend’s airing of Twenty Five, Twenty One is getting a lot more online K-netizen complaints compared to praise as the story really takes the shy crush of the high school … Continue reading →
This drama feels like it would have been perfect airing last month during the Olympics, or as lead up to it. This is also the second sports themed drama on tvN this year, after Twenty Five, Twenty One comes Mental Coach Je Ga Gil in the summer. The drama will be headlined by Jung Woo as the titular mental coach, … Continue reading →
