Ok, I’ll start off with the good news, HK-actor Simon Yam does not have life threatening injuries after a scary attack this weekend in China. The veteran actor, best known for perfectly playing sleazy villains in HK-movies of the 90’s and 2000’s, was in China attending a CF event when suddenly a man rushed the stage and stabbed him repeatedly … Continue reading →
The colors, the visuals, the chemistry, everything is daebak with top star Lee Jun Ki‘s cameo appearance in his good friend and former costar IU‘s new drama Hotel Del Luna. I love these types of cameos, like the perfect bon bon with a one bite burst of onscreen squee. Lee Jun Ki plays a priest and one is definitely needed … Continue reading →
The currently airing TW-drama Before We Get Married is also being simul-streamed in China and that’s led to a fast rising popularity for male lead Jasper Liu. The first country outside of Taiwan where he got popular was in Japan for his dorkiness, later came South Korea after the melo movie More Than Blue, and now he’s conquering the Mainland … Continue reading →
There’s another K-drama remake of a US show coming, so many now that I’ve lost count. Big names ones include Designated Survivor, Suits, The Good Wife, and Criminal Minds, and now there will be a remake of insurance investigator turned good criminals show Leverage. The K-version has cast Lee Dong Gun as the male lead and he’ll be joined by … Continue reading →
I haven’t seen a baseball themed K-drama in years and oddly it might just work. Namgong Min has been cast as the male lead in upcoming SBS early winter 2019 K-drama Stove League set in the world of South Korean baseball. Baseball was the focus of Strike Love and also played a big role in Glory Jane (Man of Honor), … Continue reading →
There’s a new arrival for TW-actress Ady An, a bouncing (or sleeping in the picture) baby boy for her with her businessman husband. The couple have been married two years and announced her pregnancy earlier this year. She released a slew of maternity pictures last month with a giant tummy clearly close to popping. I remember Ady the most vividly … Continue reading →
Zombie thriller flick Train to Busan was the highest grossing Korean movie at the box office in 2016 and for good reason. I’ve watched it multiple times and it’s still thrilling, a movie that builds the tension and keeps your attention by caring about the characters. A sequel has been in discussion which makes sense from a box office perspective … Continue reading →
I’m not a fan of Hotel Del Luna male lead Yeo Jun Gu but find him really appropriately cast in his role. The righteous indignation mixed with clueless self-absorption is nicely brought to life, and the fact that he’s younger than female lead IU works in the drama context because her character has got hundreds if not thousands of years … Continue reading →
This Friday heralds the arrival of new SBS medical drama Doctor John, taking over the Fri-Sat time slot from period drama Nokdu Flower and afterwards will be followed by Vagabond. The drama posters are out and rather illusionary, with the top poster showing him in a proverbial glass box. Is he in a glass box of pain, or does being … Continue reading →
Oh bummer, I was hoping new Wed-Thurs sageuk Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung would get positive reviews, and definitely improved opinions on the acting ability of relative rookie actor Cha Eun Woo making his second drama lead appearance. I don’t know him to like or dislike him since I skipped his first drama but I have a feeling he’s being … Continue reading →
At this point I need some heartwarming drama to reaffirm my faith in life. Too bad Brilliant (The Light in Your Eyes) aired earlier this year because it was fan-freaking amazing and I wish I could savor it anew right when I’m dealing with real life and drama world life existential crises. Maybe upcoming MBC drama Welcome 2 Life will … Continue reading →
There’s another Chinese remake of a Taiwan drama finished filming and it’s one I’m cool with updating as the original really feels so dated. C-ent is remaking Prince Turns into Frog, that cracky silly romance that vaulted Ming Dao and Chen Qiao En into stardom though both have since fallen back to earth in recent years. The new version will … Continue reading →
I’ll follow the Kang Ji Hwan sex crime case to the finish, it’s the least to do for the two victims who thankfully have been vindicated from their victimhood being called into question by netizens. The latest case update is that the two women submitted very thorough statements to the police and it turns out they were at Kang Ji … Continue reading →
