There’s quite a handful of new K-dramas arriving next week and the first to drop next Monday October 9th is tvN Mon-Tues rom-com This Life is Our First. The drama marks Lee Min Ki’s first drama lead return in ten years since Dalja’s Spring, whereas Jung So Min has been in a drama tear in recent years most recently with … Continue reading →
I haven’t heard this movie mentioned in a long time but 6 years ago it was the biggest movie hit in Taiwan and spawned the careers of three famous entertainers, with two sadly going on to infamy. Japan is remaking the hit Taiwan coming-of-age high school school yard friendship and romance movie You are the Apple of My Eye (Those … Continue reading →
My verdict is out on the first two episodes of SBS drama While You Were Sleeping which is total and complete love. Its what I wished Uncontrollably Fond was, and I love Sleeping this much for the same reason UF failed to engage me at the start, namely Suzy. She was awkward in UF and played a difficult to connect … Continue reading →
Period C-drama Legend of Fuyao isn’t airing until early 2018 but might as well strike while the iron is hot, especially for top C-actress Yang Mi as she continues to bask in the audience love for her last period C-drama Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles Peach Blossoms. She’s swapped her Three Lives male lead Mark Chao for another top … Continue reading →
K-dramas tend to prefer certain stereotyped leads with an emphasis to the extremes, rich ones are always chaebols and the poor ones extremely poor and under privileged. And when the rich meets the poor the drama produces the white knight or daddy long legs to come rescue the damsel, but in the case of the upcoming KBS drama Black Knight … Continue reading →
I’m so amazed at how K-actress Lee Shi Young lives her life confidently with her own style and path, and in the process makes me like her more. Lee Shi Young tied the knot this past weekend with her non-celebrity fiancee in a very bohemian style wedding that normally I don’t like but totally love her because it suits her … Continue reading →
Pictures of Lee Dong Wook at the Paris fashion shows this past weekend is a bit like a Rorschach test. I totally admit mine isn’t PG but then my age and life experience certainly merits a stroll in the naughty side, but it’d be funny to hear who saw what first lol. His outfit was formal with a black shirt … Continue reading →
Good til the last drop, that’s my takeaway from the just finished airing weekend tvN drama Live Up to Your Name (Deserving of the Name), one that I appreciate even more for really bringing back all the right touches that are unique to K-dramas. It was a time-traveling drama that didn’t waste the conceit nor let that one element drive … Continue reading →
September officially wrapped up yesterday and it’s undoubtedly a good month for K-actor Lee Jong Seok. His new SBS drama While You Were Sleeping debuted to high single digit ratings, not ideal but also not terrible in the current drama ratings landscape, but the positive critical and audience reception bodes well for the drama as it heads into a 7 … Continue reading →
I’m a tad surprised to hear of another leading lady casting carousel situation particular for a drama that sounds primed to do solid ratings and get plenty of exposure. Han Chae Ah has turned down the leading lady role in MBC drama Money Flower and stepping in as the confirmed female lead is Park Se Young. Apparently she received the … Continue reading →
Late September isn’t exactly prime wedding season but in many places the early fall days can hit on an Indian summer weather which would make for a glorious outdoor wedding backdrop. Acting couple Lee Dong Gun and Jo Yoon Hee tied the knot this week in Seoul in a private ceremony not covered by the media but now the couple … Continue reading →
This weekend was the 2017 Golden Bell Awards celebrating the best of Taiwanese television programs for the last year. The red carpet unfortunately borrowed more from the glittery primary colors glamour of Korean awards dressing and not from the edgier couture range of C-ent awards red carpets. The big winners were veterans Liu De Kai and Ke Shu Qin for … Continue reading →
The incredible success of jTBC female lead focused drama Women of Dignity will hopefully trend more dramas willing to delve into that genre and cast appropriately. I’m thrilled Kim Hee Sun and Kim Sun Ah had their spotlight from the drama but another actress I could totally see doing either of the two lead roles is Song Yoon Ah, and … Continue reading →
