There’s movement on the scheduling front for upcoming fall 2016 dramas. Big budget flower boy driven sageuk Hwarang: The Beginning has been moved from the fall after Uncontrollably Fond to December with a different drama on KBS to bookend the two. It would seem odd to move Hwarang since it’s been filming already and will be done by early summer … Continue reading →
Consider me pleasantly surprised by the one-two Lee Jong Seok punch this week. He’s on the cover, two different ones to be precise, of Ceci Magazine, and the first sneak peek at his upcoming Chinese-Korean joint production drama Jade Lover with Zheng Shuang is out. I like what I see from both, he’s suitably quirky in his flower boy appeal in … Continue reading →
A round of applause for Marie Claire Korea for standing out amidst the glut of insanely popular K-actor Song Joong Ki pictorials. I’ve loved all the various photo spread so far but Marie Claire has done something different, it’s managed to capture original flavor Song Joong Ki in his natural habitat and state. This is one down-to-earth warm boy and … Continue reading →
Network and broadcast have been finalized for the upcoming drama version of My Sassy Girl, which is nice to wash away the stench from the failed My Sassy Girl 2 sequel abomination. Now it’s time to find the titular sassy girl drama version and hope she can carve out her own identity outside of the role that Jeon Ji Hyun … Continue reading →
Hooray for 520 day, the day in Chinese-speaking countries also known as confession day since saying the numbers 5-2-0 sounds a lot like saying I Love You. A new Taiwanese top star couple is born today as Wallace Huo and Ruby Lin have confirmed their relationship. The pair have known each other for well over a decade and have worked … Continue reading →
I have an idea for Ahn Jae Hyun and Gu Hye Sun, very bad actors that they are, they really have a future in Korean variety and can start with a newlyweds type show. It’s bound to get eyeballs and continue to turn the public opinion tide in their favor. Marie Claire Korea just released the official pictorial for the … Continue reading →
Hoo boy, this news is likely going to be polarizing so here goes – one of the top current generation Hallyu actors Lee Min Ho will be preparing for military enlistment to come either end of this year or early next year, and now his agency has revealed he will not be serving acting duty but instead public service. Lee … Continue reading →
I can’t believe I’m posting about this – but I really really like Jessica‘s first solo single off her comeback mini-album. Those unfamiliar with K-pop may need the background first, that Jessica was a member of top girl group SNSD (Girl’s Generation) but was kicked out a year and half ago for supposedly half-assing her participating and being more into her … Continue reading →
All the attention around the next MBC Wed-Thurs drama Lucky Romance have been on the two main leads Hwang Jung Eum and Ryu Jun Yeol. That’s par for the course, and especially so when the leads in question are coming off buzzy or successful prior dramas. In Hwang Jung Eum’s case it was last fall’s surprise hit She Was Pretty … Continue reading →
Saying “Poor Park Bo Gum” feels wrong even for this occasion, because the young actor is so popular and rising right now nothing can really mar his teflon appeal. With that said, this is truly one of the most unfortunately makeup outings in recent memory for any celebrity. Park Bo Gum attended a jewelry brand event on Seoul looking like … Continue reading →
I was making nnnnnngggggg noises and grabbity hands at the screen all thanks to this unexpected new preview for upcoming KBS Wed-Thurs drama Uncontrollably Fond. It doesn’t arrive for another two months in early July as currently airing Master: God of Noodles is a longer run drama, so this new much too short but oh so good video preview is … Continue reading →
Holy drama moly, even if half this news is correct it’s still the biggest drama news in Greater China in years. Filming starts this August on the conceptual sequel to China’s biggest hit C-drama ever The Legend of Zhen Huan with a career making turn by Sun Li as titular concubine turned empress. The upcoming Ruyi’s Royal Love in the … Continue reading →
My favorite currently airing TW-drama is the mellow and underrated Love @ Seventeen, not one of the buzzy SETTV offerings but airing on TTV on Saturday nights without too much fanfare. I checked in for the pairing of leads Lego Lee and Nikki Hsieh, two of my faves, and ended up staying for the amazing chemistry and wonderful throwback story. … Continue reading →
