I knew it was too early to get complacent, to start thinking that the upcoming K-adaptation of time-traveling C-novel Bu Bu Jing Xin (Startling with Each Step) was going to be all good casting news. It was off to a fantastic start, first with the additional of Kang Ha Neul, followed by Lee Jun Ki confirmed to play the male … Continue reading →
I still remember a long stretch of years when Jang Nara was never seen in K-dramas, but with last year’s Fated to Love You, it’s been a nonstop bullet train of one drama after another. Last year she also did Mr. Back, and this year she was in I Remember You, and in early 2016 she will be in upcoming … Continue reading →
I’m curious why KBS in particular keeps sticking with the high school dramas when all recent ones have floundered to failed in ratings. Who Are You: School 2015 is only considered not an abject failure because it’s ratings went up mildly during its run and the drama got buzz online, but that can’t even be said for the recent Sassy … Continue reading →
Every year the three major Korean networks hold its own year end drama awards, not exactly what could be deemed objective but is certainly their own prerogative to do so. The K-ent pundits enjoy speculating as to who will watch away with the Daesang (Big Prize) of the night, and the first wave is here as one news report is … Continue reading →
The first preview is out for period C-drama Braveness of the Ming, best known for being leading lady Park Min Young‘s first foray into Chinese entertainment. I say best known for because this drama otherwise wouldn’t get nearly as much attention, which isn’t knocking its quality or lack thereof, but merely noting that there are so many similar such C-dramas … Continue reading →
This is a big step forward for idol-actess Yoona of SNSD, and only when the project arrives will it be clear whether this is a giant leap in the right direction or a fumbling misstep. Yoona has just been cast as Hyun Bin‘s leading lady in the K-movie Cooperation, one of those popular genre flicks about North-South Korea issues. This one deals … Continue reading →
Monday is the premiere is new love and weight loss rom-com Oh My Venus, taking over for Sassy Go Go on KBS Mon-Tues. While KBS continues to be the perennial ratings loser in that time slot, recently concluded MBC rom-com She Was Pretty did really good ratings over on Wed-Thurs, so perhaps that crew will migrate over to check out Oh … Continue reading →
Looks like having a baby did nothing to dim Lee Bo Young‘s beauty, and in fact seems to have enhanced it with extra glow. New mommy Lee Bo Young doesn’t appear to be ready for an acting comeback anytime soon, though a drama in the latter half of 2016 doesn’t seem out of the question, and who can blame here … Continue reading →
I wasn’t terribly interested in the reunion project between uber-popular Chinese stars Yang Mi and Li Yi Feng, mostly because their first hit coupling in Ancient Sword Legend never roped me in to begin with. That being said, I quite liked the first previews for upcoming C-romance movie Fall in Love Like a Star, though Fall in Love with a … Continue reading →
Things are looking up for tvN on its current Fri-Sat time slot with Answer Me 1988, but the same stickiness quotient and buzz doesn’t seem to be there for the Mon-Tues offering Bubblegum. I’m banking both for the holidays when I have more time, but it feels like the Mon-Tues slot in general doesn’t get as much interest for the … Continue reading →
It’s nice to have good friends willing to lend a hand in any new entertainment endeavor, and even nicer if any such friend is super pretty and famous. I haven’t been following Lee Hong Ki‘s career since last year’s unexpected hit Bride of the Century, his drama this year Modern Farmer was a no-go for me and I don’t follow … Continue reading →
I don’t think any song is more apt to describe TW-drama Marry Me or Not than that silly Lego Movie theme song “Everything is Awesome”. Everything really is awesome in this drama, from the writing, to the directing, and especially the acting. It’s funny and smart without losing a smidge of tongue-in-cheek quality. Even better is the conflicts are all … Continue reading →
The Kai Ko contrition sabbatical has officially come to an end, with over a year out of the public limelight after flaming out at the height of his then flashy acting career. Kai has been cast as the male lead in acclaimed Chinese-Myanmar director Midi Z‘s new movie called Road to Mandalay. His leading lady is Wu Ke Xi and the … Continue reading →
