Booyah! Like it not, Yongpal has pulled off the nearly impossible. Episode 5 this week broke 18% ratings nationwide AGB, and just now the ratings for episode 6 came out and hit 20.4% nationwide AGB. The last prime time drama to cross 20% nationwide AGB ratings this fast was You From Another Star by episode 4, and since then nothing … Continue reading →
I think Lee Jong Seok may have dodged a bullet here by passing on in development K-drama Beautiful Mind (formerly Dr. Frankenstein). Last week came the surprising news that Beautiful Mind/Dr. Frankenstein, the project that was being touted last year in late 2014 among the multiple personality glut of dramas, was still being shopped around and that red hot young actor Lee … Continue reading →
I’m thoroughly entertained by the new KBS Mon-Tues drama Eccentric Daughter-in-law (aka The Virtuous Bride). It’s basically a sitcom airing for one hour during the prime time spot, and for that actually delivers the laughs aplenty. But the drama is slated to run for only 12-episodes, which is perfect to run through the conflict and make the leads fall in … Continue reading →
SHOCK. Seriously, total and complete shocked state here. Even though I have my ear to the ground when it comes to rumored drama castings and in-development projects, this just breaking news feels like a sledgehammer out of nowhere. My first reaction is giddiness mixed with trepidation, with a side of pinch me to see if this is just some fan … Continue reading →
Sometimes a star gets selected to rep a brand or item and it just doesn’t fit their image. That’s not the case here as Yoo Seung Ho is the new face of Adidas in Korea and it couldn’t be a better fit. You can run into my heart any day, my darling boy! His first post military project the sageuk … Continue reading →
SBS clearly can bask in the success of Wed-Thurs drama Yongpal (Yongpalyi), but it’s also prudent to look ahead to what’s to come once Yongpal finishes in early October. The network has lined up mystery drama The Village from the screenwriter of Que Sera Sera, with the story set in a seemingly idyllic countryside village rocked by the discovery of … Continue reading →
When it’s one or two dramas that doesn’t a trend make, but upwards of five confirmed K-dramas being pre-produced completely or mostly does herald a changing of the winds. Even the K-news is reporting on the noticeable increase of upcoming drama from the live-shoot K-drama tradition to pre-producing. The most buzzed about full pre-produced drama is the Song Joong Ki–Song Hye … Continue reading →
The K-media recently wrote an article crowning the four young kings of K-dramas, the ones who still bring in domestic ratings, buzz, and/or overseas appeal even in this age of low television ratings. On the list are Joo Won, Kim Soo Hyun, Lee Min Ho, and Lee Jong Seok, which will make their fans happy I’m sure, as well as … Continue reading →
I’m actually looking forward to this movie for some reason, even though the pairing of Yang Mi with Luhan seems like a textbook no-brainer movie casting to stick the two most buzzed about C-entertainers in the same project. China continues to power the remake train of Korean movies and dramas, not to the point of seeming unoriginal and desperate, but … Continue reading →
This isn’t my favorite pictorial from Lee Min Ho, continuing a trend of him being hit-or-miss for me lately. Lee Min Ho was in LA in early August to shoot a spread for Elle Korea that is best described as funky in the desert. It’s like a mish-mash of styles and outfits, none of which go really well with the … Continue reading →
China is definitely on wedding watch when it comes to A-list superstar acting couple Fan Bing Bing and Li Chen, and who can blame when they are both so age-appropriate to tie the knot and look so darn in love. Striking while the iron is hot, Bazaar China just landed the coveted cover and inside pages spread of the couple … Continue reading →
Kim Tae Hee is having a very good August 2015, that’s for sure. Her new drama Yongpal with Joo Won is a major hit (relatively speaking in this day and age of depressed television ratings), and now she’s garnered another crown by being voted by K-netizens as the number 1 celebrity beauty in Korea in 2015. One can argue that … Continue reading →
I’ve only written about Nam Joo Hyuk after Who Are You: School 2015 for two reasons, the first being that he’s going on to do more drama roles and that’s the topic I cover, and the other being that he’s not as wooden or awful as the shipping wars incessantly ragged on him. With that said, School 2015 second male lead … Continue reading →
