I’m usually a few months behind on following up with Asian movies that I’m anticipating. I’m too lazy to schlep to the theaters that play foreign films and a few months wait is never too taxing when there are other dramas and movies to watch. This past summer saw the second and third Rurouni Kenshin movies premiere in Japan, titled … Continue reading →
I love me a good OTP reunion but it’s even better if the set up is completely changed up. The reunion is already putting the same two people together, why repeat the exact same thing even if I loved it the first time around. The pairing of Lee Seung Gi and Moon Chae Won isn’t exactly the typical OTP reunion … Continue reading →
Oh boy, major hotness alert! The first stills are out for Jaejoong‘s next drama transformation into a spy of sorts. I say of sorts because he really looks like a male model, let’s not kid ourselves here. It’s both Jaejoong’s blessing and curse to be that ridiculously good looking. I thought he was intentionally styled as unattractively as possible in … Continue reading →
It’s a bit of a downer to feel so nonchalant about the Taiwan idol dramas of 2014. SETTV dumped a lot of drama hours but overall the buzz seems to have died down. Despite producing one of my all-time faves In a Good Way and really lovely sweet romances in Pleasantly Surprised (Love Myself or You) and Love Cheque Charge, … Continue reading →
Writing about celebs physical appearance is part and parcel of the entertainment package. It’s the superficial part for sure, but it’s hard to not to notice when a celeb looks different, whether from natural weight loss/gain or surgical enhancement. The more famous a celeb, the more even a minor tweak will be commented upon whether good or bad. This year … Continue reading →
Grahhhhhh, the wait for a new episode of Pinocchio is driving me insane, along with the minutiae of wrapping things up at home and packing for a few weeks of vacation to Asia. I’ll use this opportunity to refresh the usual drill here: when Koala is away then posts and recaps will come when it comes be it early, on … Continue reading →
Leave it to Korea, the land that understands the magic mixture of K-drama appeal with the soulful male leads to rope in the female viewers, to deliver yet another great charity photo spread. The Letters From Angels photography campaign started in 2003 and now enters its 14th year still deliver a heartwarming message. Photographer Jo Se Hyun has partnered with … Continue reading →
After the horror trainwreck that was Dr. Stranger earlier this year, which actually did respectable ratings vis-a-vis all the prime time dramas in 2014, it’s such a relief to see Lee Jong Seok end his year on a high note. There’s the currently airing Pinocchio, which I love and it appears the sentiment is shared by many others, and now … Continue reading →
This going to be one of the most anticipated K-dramas of 2015, at least by the K-media and industry insiders, to see if it can stave off the ratings slide that has seen K-dramas averaging half of what it used to garner even two or three years ago. Trendy upcoming dramas like Jekyll, Hyde, and I or Kill Me Heal … Continue reading →
This is such an unfortunate tragedy I have nothing to say really other than give my deepest condolences and provide a straight news update. In the early afternoon on Saturday December 13th, the warehouse filming set of the jTBC sageuk Maids erupted in a fast moving fire. Most of the cast and crew were not filming as it happened to … Continue reading →
A happy Koala is one that gets to see her baby Yoo Seung Ho on a regular basis. I’ll look back on the last two years like some sort of extended PMS whereby I was on suspended grouchy animation while he was in the army. He was released last week from the army to the warm embrace of his family … Continue reading →
I know K-dramas have been on a flower boy roll for the last few years, but recently I’ve really started noticing that all the leading men in K-dramas have gotten progressively taller and taller. Early Hallyu had quite a few leading men who can be considered actor-short (i.e. Tom Cruise level height), not short compared to the average Asian man but … Continue reading →
While it might seem like every K-drama wants to shove romance in even if it’s not romance-based, sometimes the love aspect ends up delivering in spades not necessarily in the male lead-female lead department. The Cruel City (Heartless City) bromance of Jung Kyung Ho as Jung Shi Hyun (aka The Doctor’s Son Baksa Adeul) and Yoon Hyun Min as his number … Continue reading →
