Man, I really really hate that KBS decided to name its upcoming drama Iron Man. Setting aside the lifting of the title from a famous Western comic book superhero that has in recent years been revived in popular culture, the blatant and overly obvious naming mechanism is something that is at the core of comic book genesis. He dresses like … Continue reading →
If either Puff Guo or Tia Li actually likes Aaron Yan in real life like the shippers of him with either girl wish, then Dream Girls would be in a state of disarray seeing as the way Aaron flits between the two ladies like a particularly flirty butterfly. Aaron just wrapped the imbecilic TW-drama Fall in Love with Me costarring … Continue reading →
The unfolding news from the high profile Mainland China drug bust last week involving Jaycee Chan and Kai Ko has blown further open and the fallout doesn’t seem to have an end in sight yet. The drug raid went down at Jaycee’s luxury condo (owned by dad Jackie Chan) with a large private party in attendance. The guests were forced … Continue reading →
True to its roots the first big breakup worthy fight in Pleasantly Surprised looks to not even last a full episode. Good for the drama not to milk the conflict especially since it’s not really a conflict. I get that Kai Qi’s trust and abandonment issues are at play here, hence Ah Jie not telling her he planned on leaving … Continue reading →
Goodness is this turning out to be a majorly bad year for Asian entertainers all around, and this week alone I’m writing about the third alleged or confirmed breaking of the law by an A-list entertainer. Can I go back to writing about happy rainbow dating news? Oh right, there is that “confirmation” this week that Sulli of f(x) is dating … Continue reading →
There is a time and place for everything and I ought to be patient but I am chafing for Park Yoon Kang to immediately lay the hellfire smackdown on all the baddies in Joseon Gunman. More and more characters are turning to the dark side and all of it feels like nails on chalkboard painful. I’m not surprised but darn … Continue reading →
It’s always a welcome treat to check back in with an actor or actress I like but haven’t seen out in the public eye in awhile. Kim Jae Wook has been relatively low key since his last drama Who Are You wrapped late last Summer. He carried the entire show on his spectral shoulders even if his character didn’t even … Continue reading →
Big news is brewing in J-dorama land but I have a feeling it’ll all work out. The highest rated dorama of 2013 (and of the last decade) was the phenomenal maybe once-in-a-lifetime tour de force that was Hanzawa Naoki. Pundits get happy when a KimuTaku dorama breaks 20% nowadays when before he would hit 30% or even 40% regularly. Hanzawa … Continue reading →
There are huge upheavals that arrive in episode 17 of Joseon Gunman and with it our two leads are tossed into further frustration and worry about the future. Some plot threads reach a much needed conclusion while new possibilities open up that could be good or bad for Yoon Kang and Soo In. I’ve liked Soo In since the moment … Continue reading →
Any consistent follower of K-drama filming and casting shouldn’t be surprised with today’s news that SBS is in talks with Lee Jong Seok and Park Shin Hye for its upcoming drama Pinocchio. This is the third drama in recent weeks to borrow either the title or the title/concept from Western works – there’s Three Musketeers over on tvN that is … Continue reading →
There are so many secrets and mysteries in My Secret Hotel to thicken the plot but I’m in no rush to have the drama show hand on any of them. The central romance with its bickering tension and totally open longing for each other is more than enough to carry this drama along on a great pace. I’ve seen my fair … Continue reading →
Kai Ko has been Taiwan entertainment’s wunderkind Golden Boy for the last three years since he burst out of anonymity at the young age of 20 years old with the starring role in writer-director Gidden‘s autobiographical movie You are the Apple of My Eye. Kai actually played Giddens (with even his same name in the movie) and the success of … Continue reading →
For those who are superstitious then this is not a good week to be an Asian celebrity. Following on the heels of A-list Taiwanese movie star and current It boy Kai Ko‘s arrest for smoking pot in draconian drug law China, next comes the news that A-list Korean actress Song Hye Kyo has been caught and reprimanded by the Korean … Continue reading →
