A super exciting J-dorama is on the horizon that promises epic bromance and the well-executed crime fighting detective procedurals that Japan does so much better than Korea or Taiwan. TBS is adapting the popular shonen manga Ouroboros: Keisatsu wo Sabaku wa Ware ni Ari into a Winter J-dorama starring Oguri Shun and Ikuta Toma. It’s been 7 years since the … Continue reading →
There are really no superlatives used to describe Bolin Chen‘s acting talent and charisma that is not deserved. He’s just that good and it’s sad that most viewers know him through the drama In Time With You, which was a rare television appearance from this movie star, rather than his excellent resume of Taiwan movies. Start with Blue Gate Crossing … Continue reading →
Not watching Fall in Love with Me hasn’t been that bad a trade off since I get to check out plenty of pretty Aaron Yan drama stills without needing to wade through the plot insanity and bad acting. I can believe that some viewers can get past Tia Li‘s bad acting enough to enjoy the OTP storyline and chemistry but … Continue reading →
Lee Jong Seok is vaulting to the Hallyu big leagues whether he’s ready to or not with the news that he’s joining previous endorsement models Lee Min Ho and Kim Soo Hyun in repping major Chinese male fashion brand Semir. The endorsement deal is only for Chinese markets so the addition of Lee Jong Seok confirms that the one-two punch … Continue reading →
There’s a cute and worthwhile cause happening in Taipei on August 10th for folks who are able to attend. SETTV is holding a charity sale with all proceeds to go to the recovery efforts for the Kaohsiung gas explosion tragedy last week. The event this Sunday from 3pm until 5 pm at SETTV headquarters and the line starts forming at … Continue reading →
Everything about Iron Man gives off the whiff of something wrong cooking. KBS tried desperately to lure Ji Sung to the project after he delivered unexpected success with the melodrama Secret (Secret Love) but alas it was a no go. Then KBS admitted it was in talks with the unearthed overacting relic that is Park Shin Yang and even he … Continue reading →
The production of the K-version of Nodame Cantabile is coming along at a nice pace in securing the cast. Called Cantabile Romance, the casting of leads Joo Won and Shim Eun Kyung have gotten all the attention since their characters are central to and anchors the entire story. I’m not a Joo Won fan but he’s been the leading man … Continue reading →
The currently airing Friday night TW-drama Pleasantly Surprised (Love Myself or You) is one of those rare beasts that makes me feel conflicted as a drama viewer. On one hand I appreciate the low key sincerity, allowing all the characters to be fleshed out over importing extraneous conflict after another. But then the drama exists on a very placid state … Continue reading →
Chinese singer-actress Qi Wei is having a superb Summer so far. She’s currently the female lead in a popular airing modern C-drama called Love Comes Back with C-actor Chen He. She’s getting positive reviews for her lively animated performance as a woman who vows not to get married because she thinks romance dies in the graveyard of marriage. Of course … Continue reading →
I’m reserving the right to end up loving My Lovely Girl (My Lovable Girl) but right now it keeps looking like a major hot mess in the making. The casting of much younger idol-actress Krystal with only three dramas under her belt makes for valid concerns about whether she’s ready in skill and charisma to be a leading lady in … Continue reading →
Holy moly I can’t believe Joseon Gunmen went there. Or maybe I can’t believe the drama went there at this point in episode 14 when there are still eight more episodes left. Or even more shocking is how this latest development throws wide open another set of problems for Yoon Kang to face. At the same time it turns the … Continue reading →
I haven’t been following too closely with Park Shin Hye‘s current non-acting activities but this is a good time to check back in with her. She wrapped the sageuk The Royal Tailor weeks ago but since the beginning of this year she’s been heading overseas for a series of fanmeetings which have been leisurely spaced out. I believe she started … Continue reading →
I’m not surprised Kim Woo Bin‘s name keeps getting floated around the upcoming SBS drama Pinocchio. He is one of the hottest young Korean actors of his generation and after Heirs has shown that he actually has the ability to elevate crap by sheer acting charisma. That’s impressive. There has been a series of articles, a batch a few weeks … Continue reading →
