I’ve been tapped out of the adaptations of famous Louis Cha (Jin Yong) wuxia novels for beyond the last decade. The last ones I watched were the Hu Ge and Ariel Lin led Legend of the Condor Heroes and the Huang Xiaoming and Crystal Liu version of Return of the Condor Heroes. I grew up on the TVB 80’s versions … Continue reading →
Well this is a snitty little brouhaha but ultimately nothing that wasn’t already bandied about. Over the weekend The Double male lead Wang Xing Yue‘s personal production office (i.e. his team) released a video of the drama that showed the original ending was his character Xiao Heng dying in battle. The sad ending of The Double was long rumored and … Continue reading →
The Shanghai Film Festival wrapped up this week with the awards portion giving out the 2024 Magnolia Awards. The biggest winner was Blossoms Shanghai taking home both Best Drama (TV show) and Best Actor for Hu Ge. There wasn’t a sweep in the top as Zhou Xun won Best Actress over Tang Yan who may have had the comeback buzz … Continue reading →
With the flop that was Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Red Moon Pact, I’m not sure if I’ll see Liu Shi Shi back on the small screen first with her earlier filmed Fox Spirit second chapter Love in Pavilion or this just wrapped filming Kill My Sins. Both are 2025 dramas but I’m hoping for Kill My Sins both for the backdrop … Continue reading →
Striking while the iron is hot is so important in entertainment whenever there is a breakout or buzz. It’s great seeing supporting actors and actresses get noticed but if one doesn’t quickly have a follow up then the momentum seems to die down fast. Cheng Lei was talked about so much after My Journey to You for his acting and … Continue reading →
Gotta give it to director Guo Jing Ming (Edward Guo) for bringing something fresh and different to the period drama genre in terms of promos. His next drama is the xianxia and mystery period drama Fangs of Fortune (formerly titled The Story of Mystics) starring Hou Ming Hao and Chen Du Ling along with what appears to be half the … Continue reading →
The gift that keeps on giving in period C-drama The Double continues on and supporting actress Li Meng who played the crazy villainous Princess Wanning in the drama is getting her well-earned attention and limelight for her bravura performance. She was probably the best actress (and maybe the best acting man or woman) in The Double, with only her onscreen … Continue reading →
So period C-drama The Double has finished and there are SO MANY C-dramas airing and on deck that this drama will settle nicely into success but past tense category as immediate attention moves elsewhere. As producer Yu Zheng sits there counting his cash and cackling, he apparently is already planning to reunite Wang Xing Yue and Wu Jin Yan in … Continue reading →
So this is hilariously apropos since all four dudes want female lead Yang Zi in the drama Lost You Forever in some form or fashion and crap keeps happening so she can’t get her happy ending (yet) in Part 1 aired so far. Part 2 of the drama is coming on July 8th and the four male leads Zhang Wan … Continue reading →
I’m basically Charlie Brown and modern romance and business/work/professional C-dramas are Lucy and the football. Chances are it’s going to be lackluster as all have been prior but I still can’t help but check it out when it stars leads I like. In recent years it’s been She and Her Perfect Husband, Best Choice Ever, Only for Love, The Oath … Continue reading →
The 2024 summer C-drama wave is here for realz, last week premiered Follow Your Heart starring Luo Yun Xi and Song Yi to kick it off and this week comes The Princess Royal with Zhao Jin Mai and Zhang Ling He. Earlier premieres Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Red Moon Pact and The Double were both late spring dramas and now we … Continue reading →
The chatter around C-actress Tang Yan have a career resurgence after the C-drama Blossoms Shanghai earlier this year is legit real, she’s gotten top magazine spreads and new big brand endorsement deals. She’s also reportedly been fielding lots of scripts many would not have been offered to her prior to BS and she has now picked a next project. She’s … Continue reading →
Am I ready to say goodbye to Lost You Forever and all the rich and multi-faceted characters that reside in the Vast Wilderness? Yes, I actually am, what with it being over ten years since I started the herculean task of translating the novel (three book in length) and with the conclusion of Lost You Forever with Part 2 coming … Continue reading →
