So I read this really helpful explanation of what constitutes an explosive hit C-drama (爆剧 Bao Ju) and what dramas made it that big in the past decade or so. The five dramas that are genuine mega mega mega hits that earned the moniker of Bao Ju were (in no particular order): Joy of Life, The Legend of Zhen Huan, … Continue reading →
There is a period C-drama in development titled Hua Zui Man Tang èŠ±é†‰æ»¡å ‚ or Drunk Flowers Full Pavilion, and I’ve seen the novel machine translated to Drunk House lol. It was reportedly to star Luo Yun Xi and Yu Shu Xin and was to start production soon, but this week there was a melon that the male lead is Lin … Continue reading →
The year end polls appear to be starting earlier than usual what with two months left to actual produce a mega hit or another turkey. But it’s still interesting to see what Korean industry insiders think and Joynews polled 200 media, television station employees, production companies, and reporters to ask what they thought was the worst K-drama of the year. … Continue reading →
Dang, C-actress Wang Chu Ran is definitely rolling in the right direction this year after last year’s career mishap one-two step with flop Fireworks of My Heart and her bad attitude/eye rolling controversy. After the summer release of Are You the One, decently reviewed and mid-tier in viewership, she’s been floated as the female lead for more than one drama. … Continue reading →
This Friday is this day, the start of November and the arrival of big budget C-drama The Story of Pearl Girl. Youku will hold a press conference with the leads in the days prior to the premiere and drum up more interest, but it’s been spending loads of ad money with giant billboards in cities and buying up searches to … Continue reading →
The year isn’t over yet and one of the candidates for the SBS year end drama award Daesang hasn’t even aired his drama lol but there is definitely a good feel for what it’s going to come down to by the end of December. SBS has had the most hits out of the big three networks this year in 2024 … Continue reading →
So this is a big C-drama that has been in talks and prep for over a year. Late in 2023 it was rumored that Wu Lei would be the male lead of period drama Shi Jin (什锦) adapted from the same name novel. Then a few weeks later there was buzz that the male lead had changed from Wu Lei … Continue reading →
Get ready for a very cutesy voice and an equally cutesy looking drama. I’m talking about Love Game in Eastern Fantasy adapted from the novel The Guide to Capturing a Black Lotus, which confirmed a premiere date this coming weekend on November 1st. Leads Yu Shu Xin and Ding Yu Xi are part of a demon slaying monster fighting squad … Continue reading →
There is a social hierarchy in C-ent where the award winning veterans are presumed to be top of the awards pecking order. Earlier this year Wang Yibo fans got upset that his War of Faith costar veteran Wang Yang got a Best Actor nomination over him despite Wang Yang having less screentime, they called it unfair that Wang Yang who … Continue reading →
So Fangs of Fortune is here and the reviews and commentary on the premiere episodes are per usual quite on point depending on whether director Guo Jing Ming‘s visual style is your jam or not. The criticism is that it’s very posed, the video filter and makeup is excessive and distracting, flowing hair but empty eyes, gorgeous side profiles but … Continue reading →
It’s been so disheartening to see some of the online netizen mean spirited mockery of K-actress Moon Geun Young and her weight gain visuals at the drama press conference in her first acting return in 5 years with Hellbound 2. Thankfully it’s only a section of the online commentary and there remains a lot of positive support and excitement to … Continue reading →
This drama filmed recently so I don’t expect to see it on the small screen until 2025 but the production is very fast and generous with sharing new promos. Fated Hearts with Li Qin and Chen Zhe Yuan released new stills this week and for some reason it gives me vampire story Twilight crossed with wuxa vibes. Li Qin pulls … Continue reading →
So it’s coming up on November and I’m starting to pay attention to what’s on deck in K-drama land for the remaining two months. The new MBC Fri-Sat drama slipped under my radar when it was announced but now that the poster and stills are coming out it may be worth a check out. When the Phone Rings starring Yoo … Continue reading →
