The Taiwan media is getting wind of the intense popularity of In A Good Way among the coveted younger viewing audience as well as the ground swell of fandom shipping Kirsten Jen and Lego Lee (the RongYi couple). This week’s news articles discussing the popularity of the drama are all dissecting how the two leads are so so close and … Continue reading →
Episode 2 of Prime Minister and I sealed the deal for me. I have a date with you for the next 7 weeks, m’kay? Not every contract marriage drama works for me even if I do have a inexplicable fondness for this set up. Sometimes its just so stupid or the two leads make no sense to be together, whatever … Continue reading →
I continue to love the drama work product out of the upcoming MBC Wed-Thurs drama Miss Korea. To be honest, months earlier when I heard this drama was being prepped I was already inclined towards it. As a kid I enjoyed watching beauty pageants because it was always a spectacle and a family watching event. Nowadays its more a side … Continue reading →
Consider me pleasantly surprised with this one. When I heard that top Taiwanese acting stars Alec Su and Ariel Lin was teaming up for a cop movie together, I sorta raised an eyebrow and went “huh?” Love them both but I would have preferred a drama out of their pairing rather than what might be a run-of-the-mill B-grade domestic movie. … Continue reading →
I’m happy Heirs/The Inheritors is ending this week and what feels like the grand experiment is finally over. I can get the disappointment that this drama couldn’t do more with so much material to work with, and if all the staring could be reduced by 90% then a good two episodes worth of time could be freed up to actually … Continue reading →
The arrival of Prime Minister and I was like a clean fresh breeze airing out a stuffy room filled with disappointment and lament. This is a promising start with an entertaining first episode. Considering that all the good parts in episode 1 was already shown in the long preview, it’s a testament to this story being interesting and the performances … Continue reading →
I keep humming the refrain “I live in a pineapple under the sea” probably because certain denizens of my household have been substituting “I” for “Mommy” so this is stuck in my head, plus I do wish I did because then I can climb out of that pineapple every Friday for a new episode of In A Good Way and … Continue reading →
For every new K-drama there are about 10 new C-dramas, that’s the huge 10x production slate that the massive machine over in China turns out every year. I can’t keep up and don’t intend to, but I do check out the ones that pique my interest whether from a cast perspective or a production team or the rare case where … Continue reading →
The schedule for In A Good Way will be slower than when I recap K-dramas and that’s due to the slower release of the video files as well as my wanting to savor this sweetness and take my time with each recap. Liu Chuan said to Jia En in episode 3 that it’s not just what happens that matters but … Continue reading →
It’s Monday which means I don’t need to recap Marry Him If You Dare anymore. Huzzah! It also means Prime Minister and I is finally here and I’m excited but not terribly pumped up. My gut tells me I’ll enjoy it right off the bat which means better keep the eagerness under wraps for now and unleash it after the … Continue reading →
I have a feeling I’m going to be the In A Good Way fairy from here on out, either until the drama ends or it goes off the rails and I jump ship. This thing has a long run ahead of us, what with only 4-episodes aired with a once-a-week-airing not to mention possibly over 20 episodes in length. I’m … Continue reading →
Was anyone jonesing for a Joseon version of a pirate movie? Ever? Whether this upcoming simply named Pirates will be a hit or not, it surely is capitalizing on a relatively stable audience appetite for water-based adventure yarns. Hollywood has the indefatigable Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and recently China had the box office smash fantasy sea monster movie Detective Dee: … Continue reading →
It can’t just be my imagination, but is Bolin Chen getting more and more good looking? I still remember the scrawny boy with unseen depths in Blue Gate Crossing ten years ago, and now he’s this bona fide leading man with both acting chops and onscreen charisma. I love it when the drama gods combine both in one actor so … Continue reading →
