Well this certainly isn’t yo momma’s sageuk. Or maybe it is exactly that, the type of more historically accurate and slow burn long form sageuk that moms all over South Korea watched growing up and still have the appetite and patience for. The younger gen have their fusion and youth sageuks with pretty boys and cross dressing so it’s nice … Continue reading →
I still remember when Bae Yong Joon and Choi Ji Woo would top every Japan viewer poll on anything Hallyu related for a good decade and more after Winter Sonata swept the nation. They’ve dropped off for years now but it’s still interesting to see which Korean stars are resonating with Japanese audiences and I get they definitely have a … Continue reading →
I still contend that the news about K-stars testing positive for COVID-19 this year in 2021, the second full year of the pandemic, is around 2-3 a month. Nothing wildly high but it’s been steady and not surprising as stars need to travel overseas for work (as permitted) and also film dramas/movies/CFs/perform on stage without wearing a mask. Thankfully the … Continue reading →
This may be a case of expectations being set sooooooooooo insanely low that simply existing to make it on air is a win. I’m kidding of course, even the more beleaguered drama is still watched on its merits, no one pity watches anything. School 2021 was originally School 2020 which tells you how long this newest chapter of the School … Continue reading →
Man, I haven’t onscreen couple shipped in like a decade but I still remember how fun it can be when one is super into the onscreen story, romance, and chemistry. Just remember to let go when the drama is over, lol. With that said, it feels nostalgic to see SBS promoting the leads of Fri-Sat romance drama Now, We are … Continue reading →
The lady has landed! In a new agency at least, and of course I’m speaking about K-actress Moon Chae Won who has been quietly looking at a new agency for some time. She’s been with Namoo Actors for some time and the agency has done a decent job at managing her career, the drama choices have not been bad but … Continue reading →
The 2021 year is winding down and I expect this may be the last or last few of the decrees coming out of the Chinese government in the attempt to re-organize it’s entertainment industry after a slew of scandals big and small. I do think it’s taking a sledge hammer to what should be cosmetic remodeling, some stars have scandals … Continue reading →
Normally divorces with famous people have fans speculating with the usual cheating on the top of the rumor mill. With the case of TW-actress Barbie Hsu (Da S) and her tangentially famous on his own Chinese businessman husband Wang Xiaofei, best described as a male socialite in the rich Beijing circles, it feels like cultural, political, and socio-economic greater elements … Continue reading →
Typically K-dramas with a strong weather/seasonal bent air during the same period, most recently Hometown Cha Cha Cha who brought the summer seaside vibe aired premiered in August and of course When the Weather is Fine premiered in February before the winter thaw and segued into April when the leads and the weather warmed into spring. That’s why it’s a … Continue reading →
OMO OMO OMO what a super soaker of an announcement! K-actress Park Shin Hye is getting married AND going to be a mom soon! I am so so happy for her, it’s like watching my own daughter get married is how it feels since I’ve watched her since she was a kid debuting in Stairway to Heaven and in the … Continue reading →
My mom has a pet peeve where she thinks one must always be low key, do not be flashy or get caught up in superficial outer trappings, the true value is within. I think it’s the right mentality but needn’t be as extreme as she’s always harping on. For the recent batch of K-dramas that have premiered in the last … Continue reading →
The castings are starting to really get underway for the 2022 dramas now that its November already, and a new one on the horizon has an interesting concept. Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong deals with the practice of psychiatry but during the Joseon era which has not been done before with plenty of medical dramas set in the Joseon era. … Continue reading →
You’re killing me Smalls! But then again, it could be that KBS just makes craptastic drama posters but great end product. Recent case in point being Dali and the Cocky Prince, though that drama did create lovely painting homage character posters so not all bad. We’re now 0-3 with the drama posters for Thinking of the Moon When the Flowers … Continue reading →
