The summer wave is over and now K-ent is turning its eyes to a trio of stalwart buzz makers. Whether each brings in actual ratings is only part of the picture, each also generates copious media coverage, online fan buzz, and of course plenty of CF opportunities. This late fall 2021 into early winter 2022 will see the K-drama return … Continue reading →
I track how long I’ve been blogging at times by how many actors I’ve seen go to military service and then come back. I also can track it by both the rise and fall and then maybe rise and fall again, ergo the cyclical nature of some star popularity moments. K-actor Jung Hae In is a great study, he was … Continue reading →
How does a super popular actor lose 27 brand endorsements in one day. Even in China that’s still lightning speed. The way C-actor Zhang Zhe Han was cancelled was so astronomically fast and widespread many people have wondered if there was more going on than he visited Yasukuni Shrine (housing Japanese war criminals who committed atrocities against Chinese people) and … Continue reading →
Choosing a color palette for a drama poster should be as important as the styling of the images. The turquoise blue backdrops of the posters for Yumi’s Cells is both striking and soothing, honestly since it’s come out I’ve grown more positive and less apprehensive on this drama. The latest set features Kim Go Eun and Ahn Bo Hyun solo … Continue reading →
This is a first episode impression of tvN Sat-Sun drama Hometown Cha Cha Cha that consists of the Good, the Bad, and the Weird. First up the good is that the drama brought in ratings of 6.281%, 6.666% in the first two episodes, a good point above predecessor The Devil Judge, and the ratings went up between episodes so that’s … Continue reading →
Talk about burying the lede, SBS. Perhaps the delay in starting promotions for sageuk drama Lovers of the Red Sky (Red Sky) is because the network couldn’t figure out which element to lead with. It decided on the female painter empowerment aspect and then the comedic meet-cute fated OTP piece. It totally missed the giant elephant in the room that … Continue reading →
Okay, not THIS is what I call great drama posters, and what a whiplash spectrum slide from godawful first poster with the weird washed out palette to these excellent memorable gems. The character posters are out for KBS rom-com Dali and the Cocky Prince (Dal Ri and Gamjatang) and features the six leagues in parody paintings of famous portraits. Female … Continue reading →
The rumor is spreading wild and fast that formerly top C-actress and producer Zhao Wei (Vicki Zhao) has flown the coop, and cue all the Little Sparrow jokes. The tabloids and various online news portals are all saying that Zhao Wei was spotted landing in France on a private jet and she reportedly fled in the night from China. The … Continue reading →
Now this is what I call an even juicier development, it was already fun dating news that Lee Min Ho and newbie actress and former idol Yeonwoo are dating but now we have a he said-she said story, or maybe everyone says except for him. His agency denied the dating news immediately (like so fast, legit), saying the two are … Continue reading →
Sometimes the ascendance of a star can be telegraphed even earlier and seeing Shin Hyun Bin currently in Hospital Playlist 2, about to be in Person Who Looks Like You soon to premiere, and cast in The Youngest Son of the Chaebol and Strange, I recall seeing her on a CF and took me awhile to place that she was … Continue reading →
Oh this is super juicy! Thank you K-ent for upping your mic drop to start the week, for awhile it looked like C-ent was having all the crazy fun. Dispatch is ending the month of August with a doozy of a breaking news item – it published a report that top Hallyu actor Lee Min Ho and newbie idol-actress Yeonwoo … Continue reading →
The year long delay was no deterrent for potboiler political action flick Escape From Mogadishu, the Korean movie this weekend became the biggest box office hit in South Korea this year 2021. It overtook Black Widow and now has 3 million tickets sold. South Korea like around the world remains under COVID-19 restrictions still and this summer the Seoul region … Continue reading →
This weekend it isn’t all about new drama premieres on network television, Netlix released military comedy drama D.P. Deserter Pursuit on its streaming platform, with plenty of promos, and the end result is basically an All Kill. There are no ratings to monitor but the viewer feedback is so uniformly positively to glowing I can’t help but be so happy … Continue reading →
