It’s a good time to check in with K-actor Kim Woo Bin who celebrated his 30th birthday (Korean age) on July 16th. It’s fairly certain this young man, who has been battling nasopharyngeal cancer of the nose and throat, will clearly be exempt from military service and this time the K-netizens will finally not have salty and disapproving commentary. That … Continue reading →
I’m pretty sure the creative folks at couture brand Giorgio Armani, which has successfully branched out into skincare and makeup the last decade, thought through the optics of bringing a giant gold lipstick statue on the red carpet for this weekend’s beauty event in Seoul. The attendees were all dressed in Armani, and I’m guessing even the men use the … Continue reading →
Now this is a great leap forward in poster design though I’m still not a fun of the cotton candy bright color scheme. Upcoming KBS Mon-Tues drama Risky Romance premieres next week now that Partners for Justice has wrapped up, with the network going from serious police drama to lighthearted medical romance. I keep forgetting that this is a reunion … Continue reading →
The confidence is high and the pockets are deep with this one. Netflix has announced a second season for original content K-drama Kingdom despite the fact that the drama just finished filming and hasn’t even aired yet. Score for the team of Joo Ji Hoon, Bae Doo Na, and Ryu Seung Ryong, and especially for screenwriter Kim Eun Hee who … Continue reading →
I don’t know if it’s intention or not but I definitely feel the horror-esque vibe of upcoming KBS drama Lovely Horribly. For female lead Song Ji Hyo it’s the scene of her walking in the rain with a shovel over her shoulder like she just dug a grave to bury a dead body, but for male lead Park Shi Hoo … Continue reading →
This year is shaping up to be the lookalikes drama genre year, with both humans and robots doing double duty in swapping identities. SBS is doing it twice in the same time slot and same legal drama context, first with Switch: Change the World and now with the upcoming Your Honor (Dear Judge). Switch had Jang Geun Seok pretending to … Continue reading →
The leads have to be likable characters in the upcoming frozen in mental age drama Thirty But Seventeen because I can see lots of overly dramatic situations that could be annoying unless audiences are feeling the connection with the leads. I’m getting a good sense Shin Hye Sun and Yang Se Jong have that innate likability, a sweet vibe that … Continue reading →
The second week of airing solidified the ratings for tvN drama Mr. Sunshine, bringing in 10.082% for episode 3 and 10.567% for episode 4. It definitely keeps screenwriter Kim Eun Sook’s hit stream alive but doesn’t have the big jumps up that her last two dramas Goblin and Descendants of the Sun had. I don’t want to compare because I … Continue reading →
I love a validation no matter how long in coming, TW-actor Roy Qiu has been my all time favorite and now he’s getting the recognition on a stage that validates his career. Roy just won Best Actor at the indie Taipei Film Festival for his role in the film Dear Ex playing the gay lover of Joseph Huang. Roy is … Continue reading →
While top visual K-stars like Won Bin take extended acting hiatus and subsist on CF income, I’m way more impressed with how balanced Jeon Ji Hyun is in managing her career. She’s also an acknowledged top CF earner but she keeps working steadily without taking on too many projects that it would interfere with her personal life balance of being … Continue reading →
There’s now a trend I see with C-actress Gu Li Na Zha, she prefers very very feminine styles for her entertainment career dressing and I like that her one-track mind because it works best for her visuals. Unlike Fan Bing Bing who runs the gamut from striking to soft, Na Zha is basically the goddess fairy princess type among the … Continue reading →
Cable network jTBC ended its run of the Fri-Sat thriller police drama Sketch this weekend, averaging ratings in the 2.5% range which qualifies as a solid success for the cast and crew. Lately tvN and even jTBC have seen ratings upwards of 5-6% that it’s easy to forget these are paid cable networks so ratings are lower plus the some … Continue reading →
I’m relieved the additional drama posters for tvN‘s choice changing life drama Knowing Wife (Familiar Wife) turned out to also be as good as the initial teaser posters. After the trainwreck cut and paste photoshop of MBC drama Risky Romance, it’s a nice visual palate cleanser to see a drama poster be both pretty and forecast the story. The main … Continue reading →
