There’s some good news from the military enlisted singer-actor front after a week where K-ent was dominated by a genuine awful legal mess. Enlisted soldier Lee Seung Gi has finished his training and is now serving in the army, and with it comes the army using Lee Seung Gi for additional needs beyond his man power. Lee Seung Gi is … Continue reading →
I love Three Meals a Day, its a reality show that conceptually shouldn’t work because it sounds so boring, yet with the right cast, guest stars, and deft directing the entire endeavor comes off as a warm soothing meal for the jaded soul. It brings audiences into a simpler world and serves to humanize the Korean stars appearing in the … Continue reading →
One of my favorite sci-fi/fantasy series is Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials, which is late teens aimed but I didn’t read until I was an adult and still loved it. I don’t know why I didn’t make the connection until now, but the latest teaser for MBC drama W: Two Worlds totally reminds me of the parallel universes conceit in … Continue reading →
Things haven’t just gone from bad to worse for idol group JYJ member and actor Park Yoochun, it’s gone from bad to five alarm inferno in the span of less than one week since he was accused of rape by the alleged victim inside an adult bar. As a factual update since my last post – while the first and … Continue reading →
The choice of Gong Hyo Jin as the first K-star invited to the Gucci cruise collection fashion show seems like a no brainer, other than her and maybe Kim Min Hee there aren’t that many K-stars willing to experiment with couture. The fashion shoe was oddly held at Westminster Abbey in London, clearly a location that has never warranted pairing with … Continue reading →
2017 may seem so far away except it’s already June and halfway through 2016 already, like it or not. Which makes upcoming fantasy wuxia movie Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles Peach Blossoms seem ephemerally attainable now that it’s set a next year cinematic airing date. It’s also gotten an English title of Once Upon a Time, and maybe Disney … Continue reading →
I think I can get over one supremely unpalatable drama trope as long as it’s minimal and everything else works. That means upcoming SBS Mon-Tues drama Doctors has to limit the high school scenes where Park Shin Hye‘s younger rebellious self bonds with her high school teacher played by Kim Rae Won, because even if they don’t have actual romantic … Continue reading →
Well that went south really fast, and by that I’m referring solely to the tone and not the narrative quality. The third preview is out for Uncontrollably Fond, which used to seem so far away but is now only three weeks out from its premiere date on July 6th on KBS Wed-Thurs taking over for Master: God of Noodles. The … Continue reading →
Woah, now this is what I call a double whammy. Not only is casting a shocker but even the decision between two dramas comes as a surprise for me. Cable network tvN is dealing with what must be a decision of greats, namely that either seems promising and inking both would be the smart movie. The network is scheduling its … Continue reading →
Scandals in South Korean entertainment run the gamut from most serious involving felony crimes to the so inconsequential it shouldn’t even be labeled a scandal which involves stars dating. Yoochun’s problems this week actually went on a downgrade sliding scale, which could be good for him, except it still remains firmly on the scandal meter so in the end it’s … Continue reading →
The more the merrier when it comes to tvN‘s supernatural summer time offering Let’s Fight Ghost, at least for me since the stills and promos have been better than expected. The first at leads Taecyeon and Kim So Hyun together came with their script reading stills followed by when he brought her a cake for her June 4th birthday turning … Continue reading →
There’s a certain amount of ambivalence and hesitation with respect to upcoming Chinese Korean movie So I Married an Anti-fan, a project that went from promisingly cute to avoid like the plague after it got cast. It’s adapted from a manhwa of the same name with the concept that an anti-fan cohabits with the idol she hates and they end … Continue reading →
Leave it to seasoned A-list Korean stars to make such an impact with such limited screen time as the Korean adaptation of The Good Wife reveals the first one-two punch with an official poster and teaser. Cable network tvN is straddling two audience pool extremes with it’s Mon-Tues versus Fri-Sat dramas, in the beginning of the week there is lighter fare … Continue reading →
