The awards season seems to have expanded in scope, or else I simply never paid much attention to this particular award until now when my babies are being feted together. Hallyu stars Lee Jong Seok, Park Shin Hye, Jeon Ji Hyun, IU, and JYJ were all gathered at the National Theater of Korea this week to receive Korean Popular Culture … Continue reading →
By all that is drama holy, if Marry Me, or Not ends up being half as good as it looks in this particular preview then I will stop bemoaning 2015 being lackluster in dramas. Initially this started off as just the reunion vehicle for hit TW-drama Office Girls costars Roy Qiu and Alice Ke, two of my favorite Taiwan acting talent … Continue reading →
Is it me, or is upcoming KBS drama Arbitrarily Fond getting a lot of media coverage? It’s not just in Korea, China is covering more on this drama than its same network and arguably even bigger budget and scope Descendants of the Sun. I’m equally excited about both from a screenwriter and cast stand point, but am wondering if Kim … Continue reading →
Now this is the kind of romantic cheesy that I love, personally tailored and meaningful for the two lovebirds involved. C-actor Chen Xiao and TW-actress Michelle Chen have been dating for about 8 months, with a romance that blossomed on the set of the latest drama adaptation of wuxia novel Return of the Condor Heroes. They played the leads who … Continue reading →
There’s finally an awards commendation that I can get onboard with, it’s not much but better than nothing. The 10th Annual Asian TV Drama Conference kicks off in Kyushu, Japan next month on November 4th, not an awards show but a gathering of industry big wigs to assess and plan the future of Asian dramas. It’s clearly not limited to … Continue reading →
All eyes will be on upcoming tvN drama Answer Me 1988 as it premieres next week on November 6th. The cable network continues to churn out critical and popular dramas, most recently with Oh My Ghost and Second Time Twenty Years Ago, and AM1988 itself has two big shoes to fill with its predecessors Answer Me 1997 and Answer Me … Continue reading →
I don’t want to get too ahead of myself but dang it this drama looks soooooo good! Not only does the story line seem interesting in the previews for upcoming TW-drama Marry Me, or Not, there is also comprehensive eye candy as all four leads Alice Ke, Roy Qiu, Joanne Tseng, and Harry Chang are rocking amazing modern work place … Continue reading →
I’m always torn between my all-consuming love for one particular male lead in Lost You Forever, and my just one step below love for the other two male leads. Unlike other Tong Hua novels, there is genuinely no one I dislike among the suitors vying for leading lady Xiao Yao’s heart – I get Zhuan Xu and all his choices … Continue reading →
Having So Ji Sub play a gym trainer might have been for the sake of the drama plot, but it’s also going to yield a treasure trove of screencapping moments for his fans. He best friends with Song Seung Heon and the two must also share the same workout regime because both have insanely ripped bodies even within the sphere … Continue reading →
Suzy‘s casting as the female lead opposite Kim Woo Bin in 2016’s highly anticipated melodrama Arbitrarily Fond by screenwriter Lee Kyung Hee has certainly garnered buzz, but it’s a mixed bag that seems to be the typical reaction following any Suzy casting in an acting role. Her fans can’t wait to see her onscreen while non-fans just want a good … Continue reading →
This past summer saw a homegrown Taiwan movie win the box office and the hearts the movie going audience. Coming of age romance Our Times starring Vivian Sung and Darren Wang exploded at the box office and did better than any pundits could have expected, though I wasn’t surprised since the movie looked fantastic from first glance and never stopped … Continue reading →
Looks like every major Korean drama screenwriter is coming back with a drama in 2016, and who is more appropriate to cap off the wave than with news that K-drama writing legend Kim Soo Hyun is returning with an SBS weekend drama next Spring. Kim Soo Hyun has been writing dramas since the 1970s, delivering addicting Korean fare for longer … Continue reading →
Now this is what I call a promising first step in drama casting. Even without a network or time slot secured yet, PD Kim Kyu Tae‘s upcoming K-drama Moon Lovers slated for 2016 has gotten a lot of attention for being the K-drama adaptation of Chinese period novel Bu Bu Jing Xin. Most know the story from the C-drama adaptation … Continue reading →
