I really wanted to love MBC‘s big tentpole prime time drama of 2015 that is Splendid Politics (Hwajung), but alas that did no happen. It has a fantastic cast and all the promotional push to bring back the glory of the great long sageuk dramas of yore but ended up boring me to bits most of the time, with not … Continue reading →
Usually a fan goes from reel to real, watching a drama or movie OTP and wishing they would get together in real life. This might be the first case of real to reel, watching a real life set of maybe soul mates and definite best friends finally cross that line solely onscreen but delivering plenty of catharsis for a twenty plus year … Continue reading →
I’m keeping my expectations at rock bottom for upcoming Fuji TV Monday night (Getsu9) dorama Koinaka. The title translates as love relationship and portends a complicated romance tinged with summer whimsy and melancholy. This dorama got press for picking rising hot commodity young actor Fukushi Sota as the male lead, and one could say he basically got his big platform … Continue reading →
I’ve seen so many disappointing C-dramas to expect much from upcoming period drama Braveness of the Ming. I’m only following along with the filming since it’s K-actress Park Min Young‘s first C-drama and she looks so unexpectedly fantastic in this role it keeps me curious to see more. All I’ve seen are official and BTS stills of Park Min Young … Continue reading →
It was a seismic day yesterday with the United States Supreme Court finally issuing the definitive opinion on the right to gay marriage in the United States. Beyond the elation for the US LBGTQ community, as a lawyer I was fascinated to read the beautifully written Kennedy majority opinion, not to mention the hilariously scathing Scalia dissent. For those wanting … Continue reading →
Taiwanese supermodel turned award-nominated legit actress Sonia Sui has been having a fantastic 2015 so far. She tied the knot with now husband Tony Hsieh, brother of actress Aggie Hsieh, followed by the couple announcing they are expecting a baby. Sonia has been spending her time between Taipei and LA with her hubby, currently not doing an acting projects but … Continue reading →
Upcoming SBS Wed-Thurs drama Yongpalyi just firmed up the casting and production details, and then promptly went from intriguing to likely miss for me. I’m not rendering an early judgment on the drama’s potential quality or lack thereof, just that it ends up with certain elements that turn me off. The first is the PD switch from the Lee Dong … Continue reading →
It’s been a busy month for the production of Scholar Who Walks the Night, going from full speed filming to losing both leads one after another to temporary injury. Things are back on track and the production has been steadily releasing drama stills to stir up interest. My interest is piqued for sure by the better than expected stills but … Continue reading →
I haven’t started watching Kim Bum‘s new tvN drama Hidden Identity, electing to wait for more episodes to drop before starting a marathon watch since that’s normally how I prefer to watch noir-ish thriller shows. The drama premiered last week to fantastic ratings for a cable show, as well as positive reviews for Kim Bum in a dark adult role … Continue reading →
It’s yet early to render a verdict on Scholar Who Walks the Night, but it’s not too early to start fangirling over the hot guys in this drama. I may have a soft spot for acting-challenged Changmin, who could surprise me so who knows, but I definitely am excited to see Lee Jun Ki and Lee Soo Hyuk‘s vampire vs. … Continue reading →
Even exclusive K-drama fans must’ve heard by now about the recent turmoil and confusion surrounding additional member departures from popular SM Entertainment K-pop idol groups. Last year in 2014 was nearly apocalyptic with the confirmed departures of Kris (Wu Yi Fan) and Luhan from mega boy band EXO, with a side of Sulli from girl group f(x) going on hiatus. This year … Continue reading →
The nominated finalists are out for the 10th annual Seoul International Drama Awards, which doesn’t just fete K-dramas but includes popular or critically acclaimed dramas and shows from around the world. It’s less prestigious but slowly growing in international recognition and the ceremony does bring plenty of popular actors and actresses from within Korea and elsewhere to attend. This year’s … Continue reading →
This news took me completely off guard, not because it’s so improbable but because the timing feels so Johnny come lately. News broke today that famed SBS veteran PD Kim Kyu Tae, whose most recently directed dramas were It’s Okay, It’s Love and That Winter, the Wind Blows, has secured the rights to and is prepping the K-adaptation of the wildly … Continue reading →
