This is definitely one of the most bizarre bibimbap casting mashups I’ve ever come across. I can’t definitively say whether the end product will be good or bad, but my prediction is hot mess with tons of eye candy. Yoona of SNSD will be following in the footsteps of many of her Korean acting brethren and heading over to Mainland … Continue reading →
I have no problem with the current trend for flower boys in Asian entertainment. It’s not just in K-ent, the audience in Greater China has been giggling over all the Little Fresh Meat (小鲜肉) which makes me wonder if there is a collective case of cougars running amok. I like plenty of fresh-faced pretty flower boys but that’s because I … Continue reading →
The SBS year end drama awards was shaping up to be the most star-studded of the big three since it led the way in splashy prime time dramas. A few weeks ago there was media attention on the biggest stars of the 2014 SBS dramas maybe not attending which would be a blow to the ratings for the show as … Continue reading →
The beleaguered production of Kill Me Heal Me might actually be the storm before the calm, everything going wrong before it arrives only to have the end product actually turn out watchable. I don’t know but I like what I’m seeing. With leads Ji Sung, Hwang Jung Eum, Park Seo Joon, and Kim Yoo Ri, the drama released the first … Continue reading →
Episode 13 of Pinocchio was a very noticeable dip in tension and energy, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing especially in the context of this particular story. Nothing was ever going to beat the gutwrenching actions and reactions of the previous two episodes when the Choi brothers reunited and then Ha Myung had to choose to do the right thing … Continue reading →
If Yoo Ah In plans to enlist in the military soon then he’s setting himself up for some major movie drops next year while he’s away to keep his star shining bright. If not, and he still has some time since he’s 27-28 years old and some entertainers have delayed it until past 30, then he continues to work nonstop … Continue reading →
Whatever the production of the upcoming SETTV Sunday night drama Someone Like You (Chinese title Hearing Happiness) has in store, I’m slurping up every new morsel and clamoring for more. I am insanely madly in love with the concept couple stills featuring leads Kingone Wang and Kirsten Jen that was filmed last week on Yangming Mountain in the outskirts of … Continue reading →
With programming being preempted for year end awards shows and the like, it’s going to be hit-and-miss whether currently airing dramas will be aired on schedule. MBC‘s Wed-Thurs drama Mr. Back will be ending on schedule this week with the final episode dropping on Christmas. The follow up drama Kill Me Heal Me has calmed down considerably since the crazy … Continue reading →
I feel so comfortable with the narrative direction of Pinocchio, with none of the usual worrying about the OTP’s current separation status or their professional aims ahead. The reason likely has to do with hyung Jae Myung, whatever magic sauce is in Yoon Kyun Sang‘s performance and the way his character is written with such dichotomy, it makes everything else … Continue reading →
I’ve always found famed Taiwan screenwriter Mag Hsu an intelligent and thoughtful scribe. Her most famous drama is likely In Time With You, but over the years she’s written many well-received works such as Mars, Silence, An Innocent Mistake, and most recently Apple in Your Eye. With news that her In Time With You was going to be remade into … Continue reading →
When news broke that Cha Seung Won and Lee Yeon Hee were considering the offer as leads of the upcoming MBC annual 50-episode sageuk Splendid Politics (also known as Princess Jeongmyung), I was super excited because I like them both and think she works particularly well with much older male leads. Her chemistry with Lee Seon Kyun was lovely in … Continue reading →
Another year end list has come out and this one is pure people power speaking. Gallup Korea released the year end poll for most popular entertainers in the four major categories: movies, dramas, variety, and music. Topping the list, to the surprise of no one in each of the categories, are who the domestic Korean audiences loved in 2014. Variety … Continue reading →
There will be no shortage of Chinese-Korean joint productions going forward with plenty already in the pipeline and could be released as soon as early 2015. I approach each with caution but some definitely look more promising than others. Such is the upcoming Honey Enemy (情敵蜜月 Love Rival’s Honeymoon) starring Kwon Sang Woo, Zhang Yu Qi, Wallace Huo, and Shi … Continue reading →
