I’ve written off Thousand Years for You as quickly as I got excited about it so let’s take the next batch of C-dramas that interest me a bit slower. One is Forbidden Love (浮图缘 Fu Tu Yuan) a court intrigue romance adapted from the same name novel by writer You Si Jie. She has a lot of novels under her … Continue reading →
Okay, can Chinese streaming sites stop sudden scheduling dramas like Beyonce drops new albums, it’s unnecessary and weird. This Thursday August 4th is Qixi Festival, the 7th day of the 7th month in the lunar calendar, and is also known as Chinese Valentine’s Day. A bunch of dramas posted new posters or stills or fan vids to whet fan appetites … Continue reading →
I’m going to preface, or remind if you read my blog from the early days, that I LOATH the K-drama Full House. I know it’s one of the hallmarks of Hallyu K-drama spread and cemented the popularity of leads Song Hye Kyo and Rain but holy illegal house selling schmolly do I hate it. I could not get over the … Continue reading →
It was the 30th anniversary of Elle magazine’s annual Style Night and the usual bevy of C-stars were in attendance with a couple of new faces that got famous just this summer. Yang Mi, Ni Ni, Tang Yan and Angelababy were the familiar attendees all decked out in formal gowns of to varying degrees of success, I think the ladies … Continue reading →
Whether the drama world is deserving or not, we finally have a near universally beloved breakout star in 2018 in the form of the dynamic and still very young and inexperienced Dylan Wang (Wang He Di). I’ll leave it to the fans of Hana Yori Dango drama adaptations to fight out who broke out the biggest – Dylan in Meteor … Continue reading →
I don’t know if the character of Domyouji Tsukasa (Dao Ming Si in Chinese) is what attracts the most unique and charismatic of male actors or its said actors elevating what would otherwise be an average role. Once again the breakout star of a Hana Yori Dango adaptation is the actor playing the male lead role, this time Dylan Wang … Continue reading →
The good promo trend continues as pretty official character posters are out for the soon-to-arrive 2018 Chinese and Taiwanese joint production remake of Meteor Garden from 2001. I love these tropical colored posters with the vibrant green and everyone looking their most darnest in portraying their iconic characters from the well known shoujo manga Hana Yori Dango (Boys Before Flowers). … Continue reading →
I’m glad to hear that C-netizens hate the voice dubbing for the new Meteor Garden 2018 remake as much as I do. I think Chinese viewers and even many older Taiwanese drama viewers are used to dubbing, it’s a fact of life that that standard Mandarin is the default language on television and accomplished via dubbing when there are thousands … Continue reading →
I’m so in! The first teaser is out for Meteor Garden 2018, the TW/C-drama latest adaptation of the perennially popular shoujo manga Hana Yori Dango (Boys Before Flowers), and it looks like the ideal summer guilty pleasure drama watch. The drama is being produced by the same producer who did the 2001 Taiwan hit that launched so many careers of … Continue reading →
I have a soft spot for Meteor Garden not because I love the Hana Yori Dango story all that much, it’s entertaining enough but the original Taiwan adaptation spawned the idol drama craze that gave us a decade of great TW-dramas. It’s also been the source material for many dramas to launch new faces thanks to the story line being … Continue reading →
The first character posters are out for the upcoming 2018 drama remake of Meteor Garden, now more officially a TW-drama and C-drama mashup thanks to the producer being Angie Tsai who produced the classic 2001 version but this time getting Chinese production backing and the main cast being predominately Chinese actors. All the previous Hana Yori Dango adaptations whether J-dorama, … Continue reading →
I actually think it’s a good time to do another adaption of the popular shoujo manga Hana Yori Dango (Boys Before Flowers), but I wonder if the upcoming Meteor Garden 2018 will go to the source material in adapting or remake the first time Taiwan dramas made the story into Meteor Garden in 2000. It makes a difference as remaking a … Continue reading →
Oh man is this a casting coup from a nostalgia connection and from a suitability standpoint. The upcoming 2018 TW-drama remake of Meteor Garden has cast Xiao S in the drama, finally making her wish come true after she’s been pining for 17 years in not doing the original Meteor Garden which starred Xiao S’s older sister Barbie Hsu as … Continue reading →
