A Koala's Playground Posted on May 20, 2018 by ockoalaMay 18, 2018
Young man and woman in stylish outfits.

Ooooh, I like this casting very much especially for a weekend drama. SBS has cast Kim Jae Won and Nam Sang Mi as the leads for its next weekend drama called If It Is Her, taking over the time slot in early July from Secret Mother. The drama sounds melo but in a throwback hilarious face-changing way. Nam Sang Mi … Continue reading →

Lawless Lawyer Premieres to Strong Ratings and Positive Reviews

A Koala's Playground Posted on May 13, 2018 by ockoalaMay 13, 2018
Collage of actors in various scenes.

The new tvN Sat-Sun drama Lawless Lawyer is off to a kickass ratings start, continuing the cable network’s powerhouse offerings for that time slot. Episode 1 brought in 5.275% and episode 2 increased into 6.037%. This is a better start than its predecessor Live which started off with 4.337% and 3.293%, and that drama increased steadily in ratings to end … Continue reading →

A Koala's Playground Posted on April 22, 2018 by ockoalaApril 21, 2018
Celebrity image next to surgical stitches.

K-actress Han Ye Seul has my prayers today for a full recovery from what should have been a routine surgery which unfortunately went awry. She posted on her SNS this weekend an update accompanied by a picture of her surgery scars from a procedure two weeks ago to remove a lipoma, which is a fat tumor under the skin. From … Continue reading →

A Koala's Playground Posted on April 11, 2018 by ockoalaApril 10, 2018
Woman in blue dress holding a flower.

I can’t believe there is a potential for a home run casting with the upcoming K-drama adaptation of the 2002 hugely impactful J-dorama A Million Stars Falling From the Sky (Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi and also known as The Smile Has Left Your Eyes). The original starred Kimura Takuya in his prime opposite Fukatsu Eri and tells a … Continue reading →

Two men posing for portraits, smiling.

When news broke shortly before tvN‘s fantasy drama Hwayugi finished airing that Lee Seung Gi was already in talks for another drama, his agency claimed that the offer was received prior to Lee Seung Gi doing Hwayugi and was simply another option on the table. Now it’s confirmed that said drama Vagabond will indeed be Lee Seung Gi’s next drama, and … Continue reading →

A Koala's Playground Posted on March 9, 2018 by ockoalaMarch 9, 2018
Man in suit waving at an event.

This seems like a cool next project for Lee Jong Seok and one without too much time commitment. Lee Jong Seok has signed on for a 2-episode SBS drama called Hymn of Death (or Praise of Death) based on the dramatic real life of Korea’s first soprano singer Yun Sim Deok. She was born in the late Joseon era and … Continue reading →

A Koala's Playground Posted on February 25, 2018 by ockoalaFebruary 25, 2018
Couple posing playfully against a pink background.

This is really digging deep into the adaptation bucket to look for source material that honestly wasn’t even that popular to begin with. K-dramas is finally adapting the shoujo manga Zettai Kareshi (Absolute Boyfriend) this year, exactly ten years after Japan did the J-dorama version with Hayami Mokomichi, Aibu Saki, and Mizushima Hiro. It’s about a girl who orders a … Continue reading →

A Koala's Playground Posted on February 13, 2018 by ockoalaFebruary 13, 2018
Man in tuxedo holding stuffed animals.

Every time I see Lee Jun Ki it elicits and involuntary internal squeal of delight, and at this point in his career I think he’s acting for the sake of enjoying is own career. That may explain why he picks projects like he’s cosplaying for professions – cop, reporter, murder suspect, vampire, Joseon prince, Joseon thief, Joseon gunman, Joseon cop, … Continue reading →

Fashionable couple in stylish coats, Vogue Korea.

I’m so so pleased with cable network OCN‘s casting of Children of a Lesser God, doing the police procedural thriller justice with two fantabulous leads. Drama series poster featuring five main characters.

The content power rankings for Korean televisions programs for the entire year of 2017 is out and it’s a quite a feat that the leading show premiered in late 2016 and only aired three weeks into January 2017. tvN‘s fantasy drama Goblin from the screenwriter Kim Eun Seok and starring Hallyu superstar Goblin remains the content power ranking number 1 … Continue reading →
