Yuan Hong and Zhang Xin Yi’s Reel to Real Romance Period C-drama Princess Jieyou Premieres Feburary 18th

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

C-dramas remain notoriously hit-or-miss for me, even with last year yielding a bumper crop of watchable ones like Nirvana in Fire, The Disguiser, and My Sunshine, among others. Overall it’s still mostly duds and the recently started The Imperial Doctress with Liu Shi Shi and Wallace Huo has me headdesking at the stupid and boring writing leading to a waste of everyone’s … Continue reading →

Marry Me or Not Ends on a Storybook Ending for an Unconventional Romance

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

TW-drama Marry Me or Not wrapped up its compact 15-episode run last Sunday with a nice flourish. A tidy bow if you will, for the OTP at least, and really that’s all I cared about. Roy Qiu made a triumphant return to drama land with this drama and role, his lawyer Justin was hilarious and ever evolving, a man who … Continue reading →

Huang Xiaoming and Victoria Song are the Leads in the C-drama Adaptation of Once Promised

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

It’s rare for me to be totally caught off guard but this C-drama news is a major out of nowhere announcement. Tong Hua’s period fantasy wuxia novel Once Promised (Ceng Shu Nuo) is getting a C-drama adaptation starring Huang Xiaoming and Victoria Song (Song Qian). It’s the story of the parents generation before the sequel novel Lost You Forever that … Continue reading →

Annie Chen Dons Period Garb in Time-traveling TW-drama Nie Xiaoqian Based on A Chinese Ghost Story

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

Taiwan doesn’t make period dramas anymore, not since China started churning them out twenty years ago with bigger budgets and the resources for vast location shoots. Many Taiwanese actors and actresses have since done period C-dramas but a few haven’t worked that extensively in the mainland so still hasn’t tried out the flowing robes for size. That’s about to change … Continue reading →

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

This Saturday February 13th sees the premiere of period C-drama The Imperial Doctress, which has a good shot at being a hit with C-audiences since it looks decently pretty in visuals and has the potential for super angst. Starring Liu Shi Shi as the titular Imperial Doctress, she goes through the fabled Ming courts to become the first female doctor … Continue reading →

Nikki Hsieh and Lego Lee Pair Up for TW-drama Love Seventeen

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

Either Lego Lee knows he owes me big time for two crappy dramas in a row, or he just likes to work, whatever the reason I’m not looking a gift horse in the mouth and will just squee with excitement. This week was the launch press conference for upcoming TW-drama Love Seventeen (Me and My Seventeen Years Old), which is … Continue reading →

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

Now this is what I call looking good for a fantasy wuxia conceptual character posters. The first official goodies are out for the C-drama adaptation of popular fantasy period novel Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles Peach Blossoms. This is the C-drama version that is filming at the exact same time as the C-movie version, so don’t get the two … Continue reading →

Aaron Yan and Joanne Tseng Pair Up for Sunday Night SETTV Drama Refresh Man

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

I’m so not into Bromance no matter how many people may love it. I’m fine with Baron Chen but Megan Lai has been rubbing me the wrong way with her acting ever since Miss Rose, the way she reads her lines and often looks slightly concussed when trying to act clueless grates for me. I’m waiting for the drama to … Continue reading →

Truths Are Revealed and Hearts Broken in Episode 13 of Marry Me or Not

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

With three more episodes left in Marry Me or Not, the drama remains primed to be one of the best and most beloved of all the TW-dramas I’ve watched. Quite a feat considering so many follow up works of actors and actresses I love never live up to quality expectations and end with me dropping the watch in disappointment. I’m … Continue reading →

Kim Hee Sun Plays a Hot Mom Princess in Guest Starring Turn in C-drama Ice Fantasy

A Koala's Playground Posted on by

Despite looking like a hot mess in the making, upcoming C-drama Ice Fantasy got the first decent looking aspect of the visuals in the guest staring presence of K-actress Kim Hee Sun. She’s done a C-movie before way back when in her early career days, and doesn’t seem to be jumping fully on the bandwagon train of Korean acting talent … Continue reading →
