Sometimes I wonder if SARFT releases decrees and suggestions and the Chinese networks give a collective shrug and go back to their regularly scheduled programming. A little over a month ago SARFT issued a suggestive letter that it wished all networks aired dramas during the Summer months of July through October that promoted “the Chinese dream” (whatever that means), leading … Continue reading →
The constant reshuffling of C-drama pairings continues and this time it’s a new pairing but one that was totally expected to happen at some point or another given the actor and actress pool in C-drama land. Wallace Chung and Tang Yan will take a shot at winning audience hearts in the upcoming C-romance drama You Are My Sunshine. That’s the … Continue reading →
I’m still staying away from Fall in Love with Me with Aaron Yan and Tia Li after a terrible first episode (IMO) and lackluster follow up episodes that left me floundering for any reason to keep watching when I couldn’t stand Tia’s acting. The lure might just be here in the recent promotion that Aaron and Tia went on for … Continue reading →
Leave it TW-dramas to allow the drama leading lady an official reason to grope her abtastic leading man’s bare chest in broad daylight. The look on Puff Guo‘s face as she’s stripping off Liu Yi Hao‘s shirt? That’s the natural expression from all ladies who appreciate a nicely rendered gorgeous male form, even Lene Lai is all like “can I touchy … Continue reading →
There is a genre of Chinese dramas called nie lian (孽恋) which basically translates as tortured love or tormented love. It’s probably a genre that closest aligns with the makjang K-melodrama. Tortured love C-dramas are all about the dysfunctional love of the OTP that involves lots of screaming, pulling, pushing, accusing, yelling, angry kissing, basically everything bad you shouldn’t do to … Continue reading →
There’s a new college idol C-drama coming and this one might pique the K-fans interest because there are two K-pop idols in the main cast. The upcoming C-drama One and a Half Summer (一又二分之一的夏天) premieres June 23rd with a cast that includes Nichkhun of 2PM, rising C-actress Xu Lu, Tangren‘s boy wonder Jiang Jing Fu, singer-actress Kelly Yu (Yu Wen … Continue reading →
Over six-months from the public limelight is a very long time away for any entertainer, aside from male K-celebs who go off to military service, especially for someone with a career as fast-rising as Kim Bum. Last year alone he did That Winter, the Wind Blows and Goddess of Fire Jeongi along with the period supernatural C-movie Detective Dee: Rise … Continue reading →
If C-production company Tangren wants to wash the stink off the milk-the-fans-for-money Bu Bu Jing Xin sequel Bu Bu Jing Qing, there’s a good chance it might succeed with the currently filming Ming dynasty medical period drama The Imperial Doctress. The full Chinese title 女医·明妃传 is translated as Legend of the Female Doctor Ming Consort so leading lady Liu Shi … Continue reading →
The idol C-drama world appears to be in love with the Early Republic era right now. I almost need two hands to count how many C-dramas are filmed, filming, or on deck set during the time period right after the fall of the Qing dynasty plus a decade or so. It’s personally one of my fave period settings so I’m … Continue reading →
All of TW-drama land feels so lugubrious lately. There is a snail’s pace crawl in both currently airing and upcoming dramas, some of which are not bad but nothing that drives me rabid with want. Pleasantly Surprised (Love Myself or You) is solid and sweet but I’m still getting up the impetus to write about it in any way, shape, … Continue reading →
Like many famous A-list Korean stars before her, Kim Tae Hee is finally making the logical jump from small pond to huge pond with her decision to join the cast of the upcoming period C-drama Sage of Calligraphy Wang Xi Zhi (书圣王羲之). She’s well known already with the C-audiences since some of her K-dramas like Stairway to Heaven, Love Story … Continue reading →
A very angry C-writer Tong Hua just ripped C-producer Yu Zheng a new one and the week is already ablazing with fury. This is totally a grab the popcorn and sit back and watch moment but for the fact that Yu Zheng really needs to be stopped before he continues his unabashed idea stealing rampage. Tong Hua has turned her … Continue reading →
It took the adorable and silly as all heck Perfect Couple for me to finally like Tang Yan. Heck, better late than never, right? She’s also one of the luckiest C-actresses around with her leading man harem in her drama oeuvre filled with my fave guys. Putting aside her fantabulous chemistry with Wallace Huo that’s already two dramas strong with … Continue reading →
