There will be a day where Aaron Yan fanservice isn’t enough to keep a drama afloat. That day may have arrived already towards the end of the just completed drama Fall in Love with Me which aired the last episode on Sunday. Judging from the number of viewers who stuck to it in the floundering middle for Aaron and finally … Continue reading →
I don’t think anyone is taking this drama project seriously so go ahead and have a bellyful of laughs if you’re in need of unmitigated hilarity. The mash-up C-drama From the Stars Heirs (better translated as Heirs From Another Star 來自星星的繼承者們) has been in production for the last few months and is starting to release some filming goodies as it … Continue reading →
The Taiwan drama gods are listening to my prayers because the third time will not be happening for the popular onscreen coupling of George Hu and Annie Chen. The WeiNi (or Winnie from their names Hu Yu Wei and Chen Ting Ni) couple hit it big for SETTV with the daily Love, Now and tried to recreate the magic with … Continue reading →
A benevolent drama god is putting Fall in Love with Me out of its misery this weekend, and probably freeing the remaining few viewers still watching along. I was actually stunned this drama is ending this Sunday at episode 20. Most SETTV live-filmed dramas end past 20 episodes and the few that are shorter have been pre-filmed so the ending … Continue reading →
The currently airing Friday night TW-drama Pleasantly Surprised (Love Myself or You) is one of those rare beasts that makes me feel conflicted as a drama viewer. On one hand I appreciate the low key sincerity, allowing all the characters to be fleshed out over importing extraneous conflict after another. But then the drama exists on a very placid state … Continue reading →
The Fall in Love with Me narrative insanity continues and with it comes the commensurate uptick in ratings which has yielded the most fanservice from the drama cast yet with leading man Aaron Yan going shirtless as per his promise if the ratings broke 2%. That’s so sad, in the past such male lead shirtlessness required ratings to break 5% … Continue reading →
SETTV has had more hits than misses for me this year. Just the incredible one-two Friday night punch of In a Good Way followed by Pleasantly Surprised (Love Myself or You) has been sublime drama nourishment for the eyes and soul. Pretty people playing interesting characters with a story line that doesn’t insult my intelligence, where do I sign up … Continue reading →
These pictures are simultaneously adorable and slightly awkward. I can’t describe it but the body language between the leads of Pleasantly Surprised (Love Myself or You) at the magazine fan signing event make me laugh at and with them. Puff Guo and her overgrown big boy of a costar Liu Yi Hao hit up SETTV headquarters for the fan signing … Continue reading →
SETTV doesn’t always have narratively good dramas but it more often than not manages to cobble together great OTP leads to make mediocre dramas a hit and turn crap dramas into a decent outing. It’s landed on the formula of using star appeal and onscreen chemistry to sustain the viewer interest, and no other drama in its recent crop personifies … Continue reading →
There is finally a straight up light and comedic romance C-drama on the horizon and this one looks absolutely fantastic. Bonus win for having two leads I adore in Hans Zhang and Zhao Li Ying, marking their first onscreen pairing but likely won’t be the last with how idol C-dramas recycle couplings all the time. The drama premieres next week … Continue reading →
Folks ask me all the time when so-and-so prefilmed C-drama will air and honestly its a big unknown with tentative air dates often getting moved around. With that said, sometimes a network randomly shoehorns in an airing at the last minute, and that’s what likely happened with Zhejiang Network‘s premiere on July 6th of the drama Go, Single Lady (Chinese title 真愛遇到他 … Continue reading →
There’s a new C-drama filming based on the adaptation of a very popular fantasy wuxia novel and it’s already getting readers and netizens abuzz with excitement and concern. Excitement over their favorite C-novel getting to the small screen mixed with the usual concern that the casting of iconic characters is all wrong and the plot may be tweaked for the … Continue reading →
If I had more time I’d definitely recap the Friday night SETTV drama Pleasantly Surprised (Love Myself or You). There is just too many wonderful elements in it and not a single thing I dislike in the story line or the characters. Episode 6 just aired this week and the story continues to get more interesting as the leads head … Continue reading →
