Joe Cheng turned thirty this week and guess who was there to celebrate with him? None other than his best bro Mike He. They posted a picture of them back-to-back tipping some wine, which of course got their fans excited (and likely fuels the flames of those pesky rumors yet again). Joe hasn’t just been celebrating turning the big 3-0, last … Continue reading →
I just watched a preview for a drama that made me all sniffly. My heart hurt despite not even knowing exactly what was going on. The preview for the upcoming idol drama Summertime was magnificent – the cinematography was so beautiful it took my breath away, and the two leads George Hu and Gui Gui (Wu Ying Jie) were riveting … Continue reading →
Okay, the first thought in my head is – Megan Lai is insanely tall. SETTV held a quick press conference yesterday to introduce the two leads for its upcoming Sunday night idol drama Miss Rose (螺絲小姐要出嫁 which literally translates as Miss Screw is Getting Married). Roy joked that his nickname on the set was Brother Square Footage, because his character’s name is … Continue reading →
The upcoming C-drama starring Choi Siwon, Yuan Hong, and Wang Luo Dan has already gotten one name change in its Chinese title, but hopefully this one will stick. It’s now called Fall in Love with You Again (Chinese title literally means turn around and fall in love with you). Most C-dramas are filmed in sprawling movie studios in Hen Dian … Continue reading →
I don’t know how C-dramas do it, but Secrets Hidden in Time (the drama adaptation of the Tong Hua novel of the same name) feels like it started filming a few weeks ago, yet here it is releasing a ten-minute trailer already. I’ve made no secret that I find this novel rather unpalatable, but I still want to watch the … Continue reading →
There is so much pretty in King of Lan Ling that I’m flailing from the want. This drama started filming a scant few months ago, but the production appears to have its shit together because a 3-minute official trailer was just released (on the heels of 7-minutes of footage shown at the Shanghai Film Festival last week – the official … Continue reading →
So the first teaser video and posters are out for the upcoming period C-drama Bride with White Hair starring Nicky Wu and Ma Su. I have to say that the action doesn’t look as bad as I worried it might, but the first set of posters need to be burned. It’s like horrific CGI wax figures. I feel bad for … Continue reading →
Well, the most I can say is that at least Tangren found a real pair of pigeons to play Xiao Tao and Xian Cian in the currently filming drama adaptation of Da Mo Yao. Unfortunately Brother Wolf and the desert wolf pack won’t be nearly as realistic, though it won’t be going the CGI route. Just as I expected, a bunch … Continue reading →
I really can’t figure out China’s fascination with Qiong Yao. I think Taiwan has finally said sayonara to her, but the C-media still loves to revere her as some goddess of romance dramas. I loved her stuff from the 80s and early 90s, because that sort of family makjang fare was great family watching experience and good for tons of … Continue reading →
Chun Jung Myung and Ivy Chen could quite possibly be the two cutest actors in their respective industries, so seeing them embracing pretty much exponentially explodes the adorableness factor until all I see is a puppy cuddling with a kitten. The filming continues on the C-drama The Family, which is actually directed by Korean PD Choi Yoon Seok (Glass Slippers), and … Continue reading →
I think my most anticipated period C-drama this year is definitely King of Lan Ling with Feng Shao Feng and Ariel Lin. I like frothy romance driven period fare, and this one looks pretty epic. Plus the King of Lan Ling hasn’t been brought to the screen often so it’ll be a refreshing story for me. After reading and translating … Continue reading →
Yipppeeeee! I knew birthdays and anniversaries have always been good to me. This past week SETTV started filming its upcoming idol drama to follow Love Forward on Sundays starting in August. All the rumors turned out to be spot on, as the leading man will indeed be Roy Qiu, returning to the network that has launched and propelled his Taiwan … Continue reading →
If you’ve read Da Mo Yao along with me, then you should all know exactly where this scene is from in the book. Can I just say a “oh hells yeah”, and then give the poor long-suffering GeShi shippers out there a tissue so they can weep tears of joy. The filming for Da Mo Yao continues to chug along, … Continue reading →
