Normally military service is where an errant or wayward Korean male celebrity goes to pay their dues and wipe the slate clean. Sometimes its something as frivolous as having a disrespectful attitude, the point being that going to the army projects the image of dutiful responsible hard working solidarity. So its with a bit of head scratching to see a … Continue reading →
After a weekend off from official news about Heirs (The Inheritors or Those Who Wear the Crown, Withstand the Weight: The Heirs), the drama is back on track in doling out the goodies. Today’s official stills reveal yet another rich high school girl – Krystal of f(x) plays Lee Bo Na, the heiress to an entertainment empire and the ex-girlfriend of … Continue reading →
I remember last year when two body-swap dramas were airing at the same time – the Hong Sisters Big on network TV while there was I Love Lee Tae Ri over on cable. I was completely in love with Big while ILLTR did nothing for me, but this year the same two screenwriters are at it again and its strange … Continue reading →
Originally there was going to be a head-to-head showdown between the upcoming two new Wed-Thurs dramas – Heirs or The Inheritors was going to premiere on October 2nd the same day as Medical Top Team. But for whatever reason SBS is delaying its premiere for one week (probably airing filler rather than ask The Master’s Sun for an extension), which … Continue reading →
There aren’t that many Korean drama remakes of J-doramas, and vice-versa. Sometimes both crib from the same source material, but direct remakes don’t happen often. I chalk that up to the drama storytelling style being very different in the two countries. Some think there are more and more remakes recently which is true. A few recent ones are Queen of the … Continue reading →
I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again – not every celebrity pictorial is equal in impact. Some try too hard, others effortlessly convey all the right emotions, but at end of the day it’s still someone doing their job. The just released cover of the upcoming issue of Grazia fashion magazine is that kismet combination of real life … Continue reading →
The Chinese entertainment world’s never ending scandal and romances are amusing to keep tabs on, but personally I love the epic bromances more. There are so many I can’t track but it’s time to add a new one to the list – after making Director Tsui Hark‘s prequel to Detective Dee, Lin Geng Xin promptly fell madly into a bromance … Continue reading →
Not every weekend family drama is a makjang crazy fest, even if it feels like lately that is all there is. Even the fantastic Scandal: That Very Shocking and Immoral Incident is both makjang and crazy, but it’s executed superbly with fantastic acting and rock solid emotional build up that the far-fetched plot lines coalesce into something substantively gripping. But … Continue reading →
I’ll leave it up to the fans of the cable network jTBC drama Her Legend (Her Myth) to convince me otherwise, but holy Batman does this drama look ridiculous and sound equally insane. Cruel City (Heartless City) has already cemented its place as one of the best K-dramas of 2013, so it was with excitement that I looked forward to … Continue reading →
There are two things that can happen when a drama isn’t ready to air and take over a time slot. The predecessor can either be extended or a filler short drama aired as a quickie patch, or else the not-ready drama loses its time slot. For the upcoming SBS Kim Soo Hyun-penned Thrice Married Woman, it’s casting woes are now … Continue reading →
Today’s Heirs or The Inheritors official still of the day comes courtesy of second female lead Kim Ji Won. She is probably the least buzzy member of the cast, what with not being from an idol group and also not having anything close to the fan base the two leads enjoy. I like her well enough, she looks like Kim … Continue reading →
Oh man, what is this? Don’t be spinning me round and round, drama! The written preview for episode 15 of Who Are You is out and I’m simultaneously sniggering and sighing. This drama can re-name itself more aptly Who is In a Coma, because looks like Gun Woo is going to get a taste of the sleep medicine. Though for … Continue reading →
Are you kidding me, drama! Lee Dong Gun in all-black, with Yoon Eun Hye and her rabbity grin, AND a puppy wearing a coat? If this drama isn’t trying to slay us with the cute right off the bat, then it’s succeeded already without even realizing it. I’m not even watching Good Doctor but even if I was I would … Continue reading →
