When I gush over actors and actresses that I like, it’s almost always because I love their acting ability. I have a few incomprehensible biases (my Heon oppa being the leader of that pack), but for the most part I find most of my onscreen favorites continue to improve from project to project. Which is why Han Hyo Joo is … Continue reading →
What a marvelous wondrous episode of Rich Man, Poor Woman (though after this episode the title might need to be changed to Poor Man, Pretty Woman). I complained that the plot barely moved forward in episode 6, and honestly the same could be said for this episode 8. This episode was a scant two days in RMPW time, and involved … Continue reading →
He’s here! Hahaha, I just realized I made the arrival on the scene of Miss Rose of Si Yi’s ex-boyfriend seem like a demon possession of some sort. I’ve noticed this happens not infrequently in TW-dramas for a second lead character to show up well into the drama run, like James Wen did in My Queen, or the rotating cast … Continue reading →
When I was back in Taiwan these past two weeks, I actually stumbled across the production setting up the stage for the premiere media event for The Fierce Wife movie (it was near the Taipei 101). I was too lazy to head back out and watch the event later that night, but I saw posters for TFW plastered all over … Continue reading →
For whatever reason, episode 5 of Arang and the Magistrate dropped a pretty significant amount in ratings (over 2%), and I’m not sure if this fantasy-detective sageuk is simply not the viewer’s cup of tea after they realize the tone and subject matter of the drama, or because Gaksital’s second-to-last week is hooking all the viewers. I wish I could … Continue reading →
Oguri Shun has been a busy busy boy in 2012. First he gets married to long time lady love Yamada Yu, then he decides to return to his romantic leading man roots in Rich Man, Poor Woman. I have no complaints that one of the original pretty boys of J-ent decided to capitalize on his good looks for once, but … Continue reading →
Mamma mia, Vogue Korea does it again with a truly fascinating photo spread that not only catches my eyes but is sure to set tongues wagging. I don’t think it’s anywhere genuinely provocative, but it definitely isn’t your plain vanilla “post prettily” type of photos. It’s been three months since Lee Dong Wook tried his hand a MC-ing talk show … Continue reading →
Oh holy moly, my heart might not be cut out for this. Episode 5 of Arang and the Magistrate went from a sedate and rather boring first half to hells-on-wheels crazy “I can’t believe I’m seeing this” second half. This drama continues to pluck me right out of my mundane everyday life and deposit me squarely in its fantasy mystical … Continue reading →
Oh gosh, the second teaser for Nice Guy makes me salivate for this drama like you won’t believe. I think melodramas have gotten a bad rep in recent years because the plot devices used to generate the melo and the dramatic have been increasingly ridiculous and far-fetched. It wasn’t always so, and perhaps my favorite melo of all time What … Continue reading →
Waiting for an actor who who just completed military service to return to the screen can be a quick and painless or protracted experience. Some line up projects while they are still in the army, like Kim Rae Won with Thousand Day Promise, and others wait over a year before returning to the screen, like Jae Hee in Color of … Continue reading →
I don’t know if anyone else feels this way, but I’m sorta okay with Asahina pushing Hyuga out of Next Innovation. Hyuga is not measured by what he has achieved or accumulated in terms of success or wealth, but by his desire to innovate and create. This is a man who would have no problem doing it all over again, … Continue reading →
Two days into the new week, I’m already rolling around in the collective awesome of yet another amazing episode of Miss Rose, which was followed a day later by a jawdroppingly great episode of Rich Man, Poor Woman. If this is a sign of generous drama powers at work, then I expect Arang and the Magistrate to literally blow my … Continue reading →
Oh man, episode 8 of Rich Man, Poor Woman was about as awesome as episode 6 was shitty. Which means this episode was insanely ridiculously awesome. This dorama is turning out to be slightly bipolar, but it does keep me on my toes. Remember “the walk” scene from episode 7, try upping that in the final 5 minutes of episode 8 … Continue reading →
